Default 4.10 gears VS 3.73 gears

I have been told that the 3.73 gears are for fast take offs and the 4.10 gears are for high speeds ( meaning will increase top speed ) is this true ?

im thinking of getting gears.. i want the best ones that will get me to 200 kph as fast as possible... i dont care about over 200 kph ... i just want to take off fast...

and with this gear ...I know a tune is a must so is it possible to tune the car with a predator tuner ?

You can get higher top speed with 3.73 and better take off with 4.10. Gears don't effect a tune like intake and exhaust will..

The 4.10 will give you faster acceleration with a lower top speed.
The 3.73 will give you slower acceleration with a higher top speed.

The reason a tuner will help is to recalibrate the speedometer for the new gear ratio.

I have the 4.10 and it gets up to speed QUICK. It will grab 2nd and 3rd without even trying.

All smiles with 4.10s!!! [sm=burnout.gif]

The way everyone here talks 4.10s are the way to go!! I can't wait to get mine installed! Only time I've heard 3.73s are good are in FI applications. But in an otherwise stock car I've read that 4.10s will give you a higher top speed since the motor doesn't have enough power to max out in top gear due to drag.

4.10's will NOT get you a higher speed in fact they will do the oposite and they will also make your RPM's higher at freeway speeds.

buzz wrong answer, with the T-3650 it will allow you to pull through 5th gear and increase top speed, however if you were in a vacume your top speed would be lower

which means the fuel efficency will get worse right ? well lets say it had the normal predator performance tune will it be better ?

because my friend is giving away his predator tuner so i might take it until i get my own sct 2 and CAI... and lets say i had the 4.10 gears and the predator performance tune ONLY....

and i raced a stock mustang GT 5spd like mine but completly stock how will the race be ? will i give him a huge BYE BYE? or something more like a cars length ?

Default RE: 4.10 gears VS 3.73 gears

Here's what I noticed after the 4.10s.....

After the gears, I spend more time in 5th gear because with the gears and tune, it actually pulls pretty well in 5th gear.

Before the gears, I spent a lot of time in 4th gear at a higher RPM because 5th had no acceleration value.

I would say that my mileage is about the same once everything cancels itself out.

your milage will go up a bit in the city and go down a bit on the highway, with the T-3650 i would also recomend you look at 4.30 gears cause they have a very tall 5th gear ratio of .68, you will be at 2900 rpms with 4.30s

i built a simulation model for 05/06 mustang. here's what the 1/4 times and speeds are from the model. I added drag radials to the model to make sure force from gears was getting to the road (that's why stock 1/4 is lower than ~13.5).

3.55: 13.34 sec

3.73: 13.3 sec

4.1 : 13.24 sec

4.3: 13.22 sec
