How well does the s197 repond to long tube headers?

With a tune, 15-25 HP, depending on what kind of X-pipe you get to go with them (Catted vs. not)
I got 19 RWHP with Dynatech LTs and their high-flow catted Xpipe. I'm sure you could get more with the catless version.

SLP has the highest gain in HP that I could find. They advertised 30 HP gain with the Coated long tube headers, catted X-Pipe and Loudmouth axlebacks. It was true, it did add 30 HP. However, this setup is quite loud; great sounding, but loud.

Based on my experiences with headers, I'll only buy Kooks. They consistantly produce better flowing headers than the majority of other systems and do not leak.

I think you'll have a hard time doing longtubes without changing your mid pipe. But longtubes rock. They give you just that tad of tink ta tink cool exhaust note. Forget about the power advantage over shorties it is minimal, 5hp here or there is negligible but for the sound alone long tubes are definately worth it!

IMHO the different brands of longtubes are going to provide very similar gains. There just isn't much of a functional difference between them. The gains people get depend on the choice of Midpipe (Catted vs. not) and how agressive the tune is.
I think a 30+ HP gain is unlikely (especially with a catted pipe), unless they are comparing stock vs. headers + tune, which is not a fair comparison becasue you don't know how much was header and how much was the tune itself.
The difference you will see between header brands will have to do with the quality of their workmanship, materials, and so forth. For example. Kooks and Dynatech are 304 stainless, which is as good as it gets. JBA are 409 stainless, which is a less expensive and somewhat inferior material. The Hooker Super Comps are mild steel, which is the cheapest (and lowest quality).
