Hi guys! I could use some clarification on this issue to give it one more chance to be repaired before driving it off a cliff.

My 2007 is clunking and I've gone through my MOUNTAIN of repair orders from Ford. (Have I mentioned I'm growing to HATE this car?) The front end clunk is only ONE of the many issues I've had with this car. Anyway, here's the story...

In December of 2007 I had TSB 07-18-02 done. This replaced 8R3Z-18183-B.

In February of 2008, I complained again and again with tsb 07-18-02. Replaced 8R3Z-18183-B. This time, on the repair order, it says "Road tested, vrified concern. Ran Oasis and found TSB 07-18-02. Replaced both uppser strut mounts verify repair.

Complained again in June of 08 and this time, they could not "verify concern". Yeah...ok.

**In July of 2008, I moved from south Florida to Knoxville, TN so this is a different dealer working on it now**

Complained again in August of 08. This time, the repair order says they verified the concern. They checked TSB 7R3Z-3078-A and TSB for 7R3Z-3079-A and replaced both lower control arms.

September of 2008, I complained yet again and, once again, they verified my complaint and this time, I got all new sway bar end links and bushings. A few days later, the clunk returned.

December 2008 through January of 2009, I was down and out with surgery for a tumor in my abdomen. By the time I was getting back to work and getting other things (finances) in order, I just didn't want to face it so I rode my bike as much as possible. Now that it's getting warm, I've been driving the Mustang more and the noise, (Yep, I STILL have it) is still there.

I'm giving them one more chance to make this right before I persue lemon law or other action. So...with that all in mind, can someone please tell me what I need to tell the dealer? I mean, I've read "gold stud"..."black stud"....I'm just confused.

Can soemone help?

Thanks in advance!

Yeah...it's STILL clunking.

i bought my car in jan. 07 and tsb done in dec. 07. all was good for a year and thunking noise returned this year. i took it to dealer and they could not find anything wrong but did agree they hear it, they took another mustang on lot for a drive and did same as mine so dealer said they all do that, too bad!! i posted on here same as you and got a reply about billet aluminum strut caps causing that noise. i thought yes i just did buy those and sure enough that's what it was. i installed a washer on the center strut bolt and then screwed the billet cap on and now no noise!!

OK, but I'm not sure what you're saying regarding "billet aluminum strut caps causing that noise". What does that mean and how do I get the dealer to fix this? I'm a complete "n00b" when it comes to this stuff.

I heard someone mention that their thunking was caused by the fender well moving up and down.

Well, my 08 gt has the same problem. I installed a complete Eibach suspension kit (springs, struts and sways) and have J&M upper strut mounts. I still have the noise, the video on the previous page is exactly what I have. I've tried installing the replacement GT500 strut mounts and still had the noise. I took the sway bar and end links off, still have the noise. I have looked under the car for anything that could be loose, no luck.

Can someone confirm the most recent part number strut mount so I can compare to my documentation and see what, if anything, I need them to do before filing for lemon law?

Is this the "gold stud" or "black stud" item I see people referring to?

When I had this done in June of 07 they replaced 2ea Upper Strut Mounts P/N 7R3Z-18124-C. No TSB back then. The Ford engineers sent the parts via fed ex to my dealer.
Then I got a CHE 4 point K brace, to relieve stress from the upper strut mounts.
It's been quiet ever since. This thread has been around for a while and I have several posts on it.

the center strut bolt actually goes up and down and moves as you turn your wheels. mine does. it was hitting the strut tower as it moves so i put a washer on top of the strut bolt and then screwed the center billet bolt cover on leaving an 1/8" clearance between bottom of billet cover and strut tower.

I developed this same noise on my 2008 Bullitt. It started to surface after I installed my roush stage 3 suspension. I did some searching around and found this thread and read some other sites.

I decided to buy a set of GT-500 strut mounts from Jegs, they were the Green stud mounts.

I had the dealer do the 07-18-02 TSB today.

I took the car home... did 4 or 5 145+ runs on some crap roads. Drove over roads that would always make the thunk in the same spot.. like clockwork.

No thunk now.

I hope it lasts.
