I dented the mustang emblem in the center of my steering wheel the other day and I was wondering if it were possible to replace just the emblem and not have to replace the entire airbag. Thanks in advance for your help.

i'm not sure why it is exactly, but from
what i've read, when you want to replace
the emblem, the whole unit gets replaced.
usually it's from the cheap a$$ emblem starting
to pit, that warrants the exchange

Yup, you have to replace the whole airbag is why. It's definitely not the best design there ...
I think because the airbag itself deploys through the emblem is the reason for the entire airbag needing replacement when the emblem goes bad. Function dictates style concessions in this case IMO.
