Default downside of vinyl stripes :(

Argh! It's bad enough I'm having to replace my silver stripes because of spotting, but jeez! What type of adhesive does 3M use?!? I just had to replace the deck-lid, rear spoiler and roof stripes due to the spotting. The old stripes came off easy enough, but man, my roof is currently naked because it's taking me all day to remove the adhesive! I've used goo-gone, 3M stripe remover(at $21 a can!) and that damn adhesive won't come completely off on first application, I also have scuffs on the roof from trying to get the stuff off . This will be my last set of vinyl stripes, next time they'll get painted on if I choose to retain the striped look.
Well tomorrow should see the car in all it's striped glory, but man, it wasn't easy..............

Well, why not do something different and get black next time?

I've not had trouble with spotting yet (knock on wood). I have had a couple creases form at the back, and the installer said it was because of opposing curves and stress on the vinyl, but he said he'll try and fix it sometime soon.

but the real question we have is:
Did you use a hair drier to heat up the old vinyl before peeling them off?

Yes, the vinyl would tear if not properly heatedand it didn't help with getting the adhesive off. The adhesivehas really hardened onto surface and it has to be removed in layers to avoid scratching the paint(the scuffs I have will remove with a little rubbing compound- I already did a trial test with some). Just not as simple as it seems, not sure what type of glue is on the stripes, but it's some pretty harsh stuff IMO.

Goo gone sucks IMO. Get some stuff called Goof Off. They should have it at home depot. It should take the adhesive off easily, but make sure you wax any areas that will be left exposed afterwards. I used it on the back of my WRX when I removed the SUBARU logo and it worked great.

No problem, its in a little yellow can usually. As with anything, it would be prudent to try it on a small area first. You'll notice it smells like lighter fluid and its very flammable. Its no joke though, and works great in general. It did not damage my Subaru paint in any way, but definitely stripped the wax right off... I am assuming you would have similar results, but there is my disclaimer just in case, lol. [8D]
