yeah, I found out the hard way that teflon tape was the only way to go.. that teflon paste is a waste!! I read in some other forum to use it and would like to crush the guy for suggesting it lol
Excellent write up just installed 5 Cobolt gauges using your info. oil sending unit was a tight fitting rascal. I am preping car for a supercharger and thought I would take advantage of the autometer Cash for your dash rebates. I m getting back 175 bucks I used the SOS pillar and pod. I drilled the hole for the AFI guage behind the center plate just couldnt decide for sure to put it there it went on the pillar. Thanks Shredderfor your time and pics.

I havnt written anything on the water temp gauge yet because I havnt finished it yet. I am going to use its wiring harness to debug the issue with the oil temp gauge, and the weather has been too crappy to get under the car lol
Did you ever debug the oil temperature gauge? I'm assuming it is not working because there is no flow through the adapter, so you're not seeing the actual temperature of the oil.
The Autometer webite has this about temp gauges:
When it comes to mounting the sender for either a trans temp or oil temp gauge, we recommend you use a weld in bung, available separately for MECHANICAL gauges as model #2261, or for ELECTRIC gauges as #2260. The reasoning for this is simple; when the bung is mounted so it will be continuously submerged in fluid, it will give the most accurate readings.
