I'm going to go over the basic 3/36 warranty, so I was thinking about extending it to 5/70 (or something like that), then when my lease is up (around 50K miles) cancelling the warranty. Anyone done this?
idk it was only 1200 bux-i bought mine when i got the car, as i was driving 130+ miles/day, now i drive about 5 miles/day, but it's alright, i've already used it to replace schtuff that bugged me/wasn't working - i wanted to take it back in for something else, but i can't remember what lol

I doubt its bumper to bumper. Lots of fine print in those extended warranties. I bought an 08 3 weeks ago and the dealer tried his best to sell me the extended warranty but I didn't buy it. Too many loop holes.

cash that warranty in!
I did mine after 6 months. What is the point in the extended warranty? Two years and I have never had anything break yet.
if you get the "Premium Care" plan its basically the same warranty you get when the car is new. the pricing is based on how many miles you want it to cover and how many years you want it to stay valid (like 75,000 over 5 years, 6 years, or 7 years) there are alot of pricing variables depending on the level of coverage and the miles / years the warranty lasts. that being said, i can extend my warranty from 3/36k to 6/75k using the best plan (Premium Care) for 1215.00, or extend it to 100k for about 1800.00
Now, i figure if i can buy a 1250.00 beater and it got me around for 3 years without breaking i would get my moneys worth from that car right? wouldnt that translate into the car i spent 25k for too? considering i've already had front end clunks fixed, clutch packs in the rearend, sending unit/gauge in the gastank, and 2 seat release levers break i figure its a wise investment. what happens when the tranny sh*ts the bed? i just dont trust these 5 speed automatics...... i want ma shizz to be covered for the long haul
i sold my truck then cancel the warranty and they gave me back my money

my 06 had a problem, whereas i would get off a highway or routeaway and hit the offramp and then try to take off again, and the car would bog downbad, i took it in because i assumed the warrenty would cover it, and they wanted to charge me for a fuel pump, and that was within the 3/36 warrenty. so i figure if there not going to hook me up in this time frame, why spend thousands when im guessing i will get even less. just something to think about. maybe the dealer was lazy or didnt know

Only the first year/12k is REALLY covered. After that it's pretty much up to them what they want to fix. I was offered the extended warrenty where they'll fix anything for any reason (just like for the first year), at cost (knew the general manager) and still said no. Not worth it in my opinion as you have to remember unless you buy it outright you're paying however much it is, plus taxes, and then interest on top of that. It adds up fast. Also you can get a warrenty later if you really need one though quality companys.

Your warranty will expire when you hit the limit on either the mileage or time. Just because you don't put too many miles on it will not mean it will last forever.
But never, EVER, buy an extended warranty when you buy a new car. It doesn't take effect until the factory one expires, so that's money that you either could have invested for 3 years or you are making larger car payments than you need to.
I got my extended warranty for my 2005 when they had a year end sale on Dec 31. I don't plan on any mods and most cars start to break after 3 years. Just because your Mustang has been working fine for over 2 years is no guarantee that it won't break something in the future.
Almost forgot:
For those who have extended warranties and get in an accident where the car has been totaled, be sure to have the warranty canceled. They should refund a prorated portion of however much is left on the warranty.
Also, if you have this unfortunate event happen, most states will let you get a refund on a portion of your vehicle's registration.
Every little bit helps when you'll be needing a new car.

after a few months i walked back into my stealership and spoke with my sales rep and told him i want to return the warrenty i signed a paper and in a few days i recieved a check. My dealership still accepted my warrenty after my blower piping rubbed a hole in my a/c lines. I just had to remove the lines bring it to them they gave me new one i put it all back in and brought the car to them and they recharged it for free.
