Default Installing GT500 Spoiler from The Spoiler Store

My GT500 spoiler should be delivered today! I can't wait to get it on the car.

I do have a question for those who have installed spoilers...

How did you prep the paint on the trunk that will be under the spoiler?

A. Strip off the wax so the 3M tape will stick better
B. Put a fresh coat of wax on
C. Do nothing but clean where the spoiler goes

Thanks in advance!
JD

No need to take off or apply wax. Just make sure the trunk lid is clean, and clean with alcohol. Are you drilling holes?

Won't the rubbing alcohol take the wax off?

I decided not to drill the additional holes. Many have said that they have had no problem without drilling the additional holes.

I used a Ditzler wax/grease remover that I had in my cabinet.

Do you currently have the stock spoiler? I had the stock spoiler on mine and I used fishing wire to remove mine I had someone pull up on the stock spoiler while I sprayed some Meguiars detailer under the adhesive and used the fish wire in a back and forth motion to seperate the adhesive and stock spoiler from the trunk make sure you use something to lubricate the fish wire if you dont have some kind of detail spray use some soap and water it came off pretty easy, cause it is taped on pretty strong. Hope this helps. Here are some pictures of theShelby spoiler on a black vert. From the Spoiler Store.

My process was......(and this is after removal of stock spoiler, and clean up of the goo gone...)

Wash entire trunk lid with normal car washing soap

Clean 3M contact area with rubbing alcohol, or if available adhesive promoter

apply new spoiler, and tighten down

apply new wax and polish to exposed areas

No problems thus far......

I just installed mine the other day, looks and fits great, although I have 2 minor problems. First I somehow scratched the hell out of the left side trunk near the holes for the stock spoiler but it still shows where the gt500 one is (have no idea how I did it, but I'm sure a good buffing will fix that). Second, the tape on the gt500 spoiler didn't really make contact and stick on the sides, this really don't much matter though since the whole front and rear stuck really well so I don't think it going anywhere. Overall I'm pretty happy with it.
