Default How To: Tigthen e-brake cable *Pix*

Ok, I asked a while back how to do this since my tard basket cousin yanked the hell out of it, making it feel very loose. I started messing around with it and figured it out. If this has already been posted, I apologize. It is VERY easy:

1. Open the center console. You will notice a little plastic door:

2. Now gently pull this cover off:

3. With the e-brake engaged, you will be able to see the tightening mechanism on the back of it:

4. Using a 10mm deep socket, tighten the nut by turning clock wise:

It depends on how loose your e-brake is as to how many times you have to turn the nut. Just experiment with it: Turn it a few times, then check the e-brake. I ended up turning the nut about 10-15 times. Now the e-brake feels better than when I first got it.

Nice write up! We should make this a sticky just because you called your cousin a tard basket.

My E-brake will go up nearly halfway without pressing the button. Its really annoying when I have my cell phone in my right pocket and I'm driving and I lift my leg just a little and it pushes up the E-brake.

Will this fix that?

It should. like I said, mine was really loose after he yanked on it. Mine literally has to be pulled on now in order to make it move, so I think it should fix yours. Just turn it in increments and test it out. Like I said mine took quite a few turns before I got it to where I wanted to.

Could anyone make this a sticky? I know it's not much, but it's worth knowing if you don't.

LOL "tard basket"

Ford did this to my mustang when they gave it back to me once. Had one of their guys drive it out to me in front of the waiting room and yanked up hard on that parking brake handle. I about had a coronary.

But what is Ford and the tard doing? Is the cable stretching THAT much, or is something slipping?

They are over pulling it. Trust me, you can do this to just about any e-brake. There's a line between engaging it and over doing it. Pull on your's til it sits straight up, you'll see what we mean.

The cable must be slipping. I never use mine.
