So I take my 06 GT into Ford last week to fix my water leak that I can't find to save my life.. but the mildew smell tells me there is a water leak.. ( you think .. ?? )
as a FYI.. the 05's had this problem kind of bad.. so I checked every where I knew to check.. again.. I can't find the leak.. but common sense tells you there is one..!!!
well at the dealership they couldn't find a leak but did find that my floor padding had mildew on it.. so they said the replaced it.. long story short..
we had some snow and guess what..???
yeah .. my problem ( smell ) is back and even WORSE than it was before..
so off to the Dealership again..
kicker is.. I told them they could have the car for a week if they needed it.. nope.. done in two days.. yeah right..
sorry just a rant..!!!!! :arrg..!!!!!

My husbands Sonoma had a water leak and after it was found fixed , carpet replaced... darn it I STILL smell mildew in that truck. One of the best things I found to combat it is to put some Bounce fabric softner sheets tucked in to some places. It helped.
They say there is no more leak, but I have a hard time believing it. Good luck!

Vista Blue GT LOVE IT! It's bone stock -- except for the shorty 'tenna and the polished billet plug in the power outlet. Keeping it that way too.
Perhaps this has already been checked, but if not then it may be the cause of the leak problem. In the engine compartment are 2 black rubber grommets inserted in the bottom of the firewall on each side of the engine that drain water from inside the firewall due to rain, melting snow, washing, etc. They can get blocked up from debris that falls thru the cowl openings at the bottom of the windshield. Remove them, flush out any debris from the inside, and replace.
If they have already been cleaned out, or doing so does not fix the problem, then one common location for the leak is at a seam at the juncture of the A pillar, firewall, and door on the passenger's side. The adhesive applied on this seam has been known to shrink and crack in cold weather, thus allowing water to leak into the footwell area of passenger's compartment. Accessing it requires the removal of the passenger's side front fender, and possibly also the door.
Other common locations for the leak are at a pinch seam under the windshield cowling, and at the openings where the cowling's plastic tabs are inserted into the top of the firewall.

If you read the TSB 07-14-6 on the water leak, you will see that there are four different causes that can contribute to the leak. Any one or even a combination of them could be the cause.
Rex7010: There is a TSB on this very well known problem. I know because I had it on my car. There are seals that did not get put on by the factory that require a body shop to remove the front right fender, put on the seal and put it all back together again. This is a warrantee repair. There are dozens of posts about this TSB on here.
