Default CAI Tuner Question...

I might have lucked up on a great deal today on a JLT CAI w/ SCT Excaliber Tuner. The guy told me that the Tuner is locked to his specific VIN #, and I would need to send the tuner back to SCT to have it unlocked. The search function is currently not working, so I have a couple questions and any help/comments/advise would be appreciated.

1. Is the above true? if not can I have Brenspeed/Bamachips/Modular Powerhouse unlock it and tune?
2. Is $75 a good price for a tune?

Also, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year everyone .

Does SCT charge to unlock it?

the guy can unlock it himself by flashing his car w/ the tuner back to stock. but if it's on its way already, then a tuner or SCT can unlock it.

He doesn't have the car anymore. He totaled the stang a while back and took it off soon after the wreck before insurance got a hold of it .

Looks like I can just take it to a tuner shop and have them unlock it & tune.

Yep, just send her in. Pick yourself up a Brenspeed tune and you will be good to go.

Why Brenspeed over Bamachips and Modular Powerhouse?

Personal preference. You have a manual, most agree that Brenspeed does the best manual tunes. Also Brenspeed customer service is the best, hands down. Give them a call and they can have you a tune in a matter of hours.

The reason I am such a huge Brenspeed guy is due to the fact that they created a custom tune they send out with all their paxton packages that have been proven to be almost perfect! I know mine was, and have talked with multiple others and they said the same. Their customer service is just amazing, and they will help/give advice on anything you need.

Age-old Brenspeed vs Bama debate....

I am a BAMA girl and will always be. He worked wonders on my car.....and I'd even trust his tuning-magic on the ol' Shelby...

Call Brenspeed and Bama first... almost positive they cannot unlock it only SCT can... thats why I had to send mine to SCT and it cost 150 bucks.. plus the tunes from Bama... I got screwed cause I bought my CAI and tune off a guy on here and he told me it was unlocked... so I could have bought a brand new one for a little cheaper... but the CAI only had about 2000 miles on it...
