Default Need Help Slow Mustang

My car is pretty much a stock 06 auto GT except for a CAI and tune. The last time I was at the track I ran a 9.06 in the 1/8th with a 2.2 60ft with other runs in the 9.1s around 80mph. I felt that I had a lot of wheel spin so I bought some Nitto 275/40 DRs mounted on stock 17 wheels. Now I'm running a consistent 9.3 with a 2.4 60ft still at 80mph. What gives? I'm heating up my tires and ran about 29psi but I feel like I'm spinning just as much as with the stockers. I've tried launching just about everywhere between 2000 to 3000 RPM. Anything below and it bogs on take off and then starts spinning. Launching above 2000 leaves me spinning off the line and then it bogs and takes off. When the car shifts to second it always chrips the tires and sometimes gets a little sideways. Spectators tell me I am also chirping third. Do I need to do some suspension upgrades or look at more power to make up for lost time in spinning? What mods are recommended. I'm on a $300 or less budget.

There are better choices for drag radials. M&H race-masters 275/50/17 will fit the stock 17x8 rims. I have been told that these really hook. What CAI/Tune are you running? For $300 or less, you could buy some lower control arms (lca). These will reduce wheel hop.

I see you guys prefer M&H over Nitto. I can invest in some M&Hs as I got a really good deal on the Nittos used. What version of the M&Hs to you suggest? I will only run them on my car from my house to the strip and then back home so I don't need anything that will hold up to a lot of street use, but I'd rather not have to change tires at the strip (yet, maybe when I get more serious about racing). Should I look at 275/50/R17s like gman suggested or stick with 275/40/R17s like I have now?

You need some LCA's

My best time from when I was totaly stock was (stock perelli 235/55-ZR17 normal street tire pressure)
60' 2.085
1/8 8.883
1/4 13.813

this was before my LCA's or my CAI

and its an Auto

Should I also get LCA brackets? I read they were only needed if I lower my car and I don't ever plan on lowering it. Also can I remove the weights that are mounted on the axles without effecting anything? I don't know what they are called but I can post pictures if you guys don't know what I'm talking about.

If your talking about the NVH blocks yes you can remove them

the Reloc brackets have to holes (ie 2 settings)
the upper is usable with stock ride hight
the lower is for if your lowered

you might not need the reloc brackets but they wouldn't hurt (just use the upper hole)

however your elevation could be hurting you
I'm near sea level so the air is denser (the elevation at the track I go to is about 31ft above sea level)

you might want to check the times people at your track are getting

get an adjustable lower control arm and tubular lower control arms and you should be able to hook a hell of alot better... with the mods listed in my sig, I ran an 8.332 at 87.8 mph on my 295/25/20 tires that slid all over the place.
