Default RE: Winter Weather and the Short Drop Glass feature

Hey Jim,

Good question. I live in the chicago area too, (elgin) And the window thing is def. something to think about. I was curious what you might be doing about your wheels? My stang came with the stock aluminum wheels and I was thinking about getting other wheels to put on for the winter. The manual says the wheels have a clear coat paint so maybe they would hold up okay if I keep them clean. Worried about the salt. Any thoughts?

riff, I'm in Itasca, looks like we live pretty close to each other. I actualy ordered off Ebay some other rims and tires and they are enroute as we speak. I plan on using the stock ones that came with the car for the winter unless they dont work well. They have the M+S rating so they should work OK. I plan on putting some weight in the trunk for December through Febuary time frame for added traction.

I traded in an older 1998 Jepp Wrangler when I got my mustang and it had the aluminum mag wheels on it. I wasnt real good about keeping them real clean and after about 3 years they started to erode/pit near most of the seams where the clear coat had worn off or was eroded away from the salt. I know they clear coat the rims to help them weather the storm and I think if you keep up on it and dont let the salt stay on there all winter like I did you should be fine. Maybe a good healthy coat of wax before the weather turns too. I figure on Tuesday I will pay the local Ford dealer service center a visit to see what they have to say about my orginal concern. Should be interesting. I am sure I will be resending Ford my orginal question. Yesterday I washed the car and for the life of me cant see how you will even be able to get into your car if that lower window track ices up.

Went to the local dealership today and talked to the Service Manager. He told me it was a very good question that he couldnt answer and will submit it into Ford and see what they say. Another good piece of advice I got from another guy standing there listening to my question was to get a good car cover. It is a hassle and all but I plan on using the cover only for the winters.

me to..or do it the ghetto way and i know it will sound weird but lay a towel over the window and onto the roof when you know it is going to ice or snow...let it stay till the next time you drive and then simply pull it off...the towel will protect the windows from icing up and whatnot and then it will drop

I second that Stoenr. I've heard that Rain-X works well for ice too. It is supposed to make the window more slippery so that the ice doesn't stick. Just put a good coat of it on and you should be OK.

I suggest buying a house with a garage, or renting from a place that has car ports. If you are leaving town, take a cab to the airport or the transit system. If not, get a car cover. But really, make the smart choice and move to southern California.

LoL. Pay my way, im there!
Cali is just to expensive.
TorchRedBeauty - Yeah rain X does work good for that.
Even those Bright Orange TOW stickers the cops put on your window just peel off like it was never stuck. Parked illegally in the High school parking lot, when I was in high school
