Changing the air cabin filter is not critical compared to oil, air, fuel filters. How much you use your fan on outside air vs. recirc and your location will determine how dirty the filter gets. And even IF it's dirty, what's the big deal? Unless it's nearly clogged it'll still pass air to the cabin. I wouldn't sweat changing it. Save it for a day that you're bored.
My car has over 40k miles and has never had it changed. I'd say its a safe $15 to spend.

You guys are killing me with the whole don't need to change it, don't bother, etc etc.
For those of you that don't change it yearly. Notice that stench when you turn off the A/C after having it on for a few mintues or how the heat smells really musty, like socks?
It's because that filter has mold and dirt on it and that's being shoved into the passenger compartment or at least having to pass through that festering bed of crap as it goes into the passenger compartment. Not to mention the takes away from how efficient the system is. If the filter is caked with dirt and mold it's going to pass less air throught the system making the blower motor work harder.
It's cheap and easy to replace and for those that have allergies it's there for a reason.
I changed mine around 25k i think or 30 i dont remember but i know when i changed it , it was was black...Yeah id say change it lol unless you want dirty air going threw the car with the windows closed lol..

I completely agree. I would have changed mine sooner, but I honestly never knew about it.
