Default When to change CAI filter?

How many miles do you folks change your cold air intake filter? I put on a Granatelli CAI about 40,000 miles ago and have never changed it. I do take it off and blow it off with a reverse blowing Rainbow vacuum cleaner. But have never changed it. I'm not in a heavily dusty area.

get the K&N recharge kit and follow instructions, that should do the trick.

Like mx07gt says. You use the K&N recharge kit to clean and reoil you current filter. Just be carefull not to over oil it when you do.

When I bought my K&N CAI the man i bought it from said he cleaned it every 10k miles. According to K&N you should clean it when there is so much dust you can't see anymore of the wiring surrounding the fabric, but that sounds too late for my taste.

I clean and reoil my Steeda at about 15,000 mile intervals, give or take a few thousand. It depends on how it looks and if I suspect my mileage has dropped from a possible restriction.

It's not a bad idea to buy a spare filter if your Stang is your DD. A decent cleaning and reoiling takes about a day or 2 since you need to let the element thouroghly dry before reoiling.

Clean it when it looks dirty. It depends on where you live as to how often you need to clean it. It is really dusty in AZ so i clean my pretty often.

From what I have read, do not use air to clean out the filter. It is supposed to damage the filter. The K&N recharge kit uses a soap that you soak the filter with and then rinse out. You use running water from the inside of the filter out. Not supposed to use a hose nozzle.

Finish up with a light coat of oil. Make sure the filter is completely dry before applying the oil.

Also, placing the washed filter in the sun will expedite the drying process.
