I installed some granatelli slotted/drilled rotors a while back and I notice when I drive close to a wall or road divider I can hear a clicking sound coming from the wheels. Sounds like when you put a card in bike spoke and drive around but a little quieter. It does it on both sides of the car too. Is this normal or did I do something wrong? I installed slotted rotors on my old cobra and it did the same thing but I though it was just the cheap rotors I bought. It is really annoying, thinking of putting the stock rotors back on.

Mine do the same thing. When I bought them, I already knew they were going to sound like a poker card in a bicycle spoke from reading these forums. I got them anyway because they look pretty good and were cheap (4 rotors, $300).

Just so I know I'm not the only one experiencing this it isn't so bad I guess. It must sound like that for every vehicle driving right next to me though. They probably think my car is messed up or something.

There was even a disclaimer on the site I bough them from.
**Slotted and Dimpled rotors such as these have a distinct noise that's associated with running them. A "Clicking" type sound can be heard while applying the brakes to come to a complete stop. This noise is normal and does not affect the durability or performance of these rotors. The noise is created by the hot gasses that build up in the dimples which are then released as the dimple passes the pad allowing the gas to release into the atmosphere.**

I switched out my calipers to the Brembo (GT500 ) and DBA drilled and slotted rotors. I'm not sure if the type of calipers or rotors has anything to do with it. You would think it would do the same. http://mustangforums.com/forum/2005-...yesterday.html

Well mine do it all the time even when not braking. It is a bit louder when applying the brakes though.

It's probably because the slots are so small on your rotors. Mine go all the way to the edge of the rotor.

Yes it's normal. The Granatelli rotors are actually EBC GD (Grooved and Dimpled) series rotors. The noise comes from the dimples and is the reason I got rid of mine. I now use EBC USR series rotors and have no noise from my brakes.
