This advice comes from Massachusetts winters which can be pretty harsh and my GT is my daily driver. With the tires I'm going to recommend you don't need ANY additional weight or anything in the trunk and the car will drive like a 4 wheel drive pickup I promise. One thing though, you've gotta buy ALL FOUR SNOWS not just two. The trick to snow tires is NOT in the tread pattern but in the softness of the rubber compound. This is why I use nothing but Michelin X-Ice 2. They are pricey but worth every penny and prevent you from having to buy a winter beater.

really? the rubber is soft? hmm i wonder how well my M&H 275/50/17 Drag Radials will do in the winter?
I've used the stock tires the past 2 winters.. only 1 time did i have some struggles.. about 2 ft of snow and they didn't plow the roads.. otherwise it handled fine on the ice.. but winter tires would likely be even better..
Great Odin's Raven No! I'd never subject my Mustang to the touch of winter here. I don't even let it onto the road until at least a month of springtime rain to wash away all the roadsalt. That's just asking to rust and erode the underside of the vehicle, all the bolts and everything. Here in NY it's the worst thing you can do to a vehicle.
That's why I bought a $500 Subaru Legacy. AWD w/ Graspic tires @11/32 tread. I suggest if you can find a winter beater/rat. It'll take the brute force of nature and our attempts at taming it while your Mustang takes a few months off to stay pretty.
the mustang can take it and dish it out.. comon nature, do your worst.. mmm dont get salt on my lil pony? FFFFF that.. bring it on!!!! my stang spits in natures face whenever ice and snow gets flung at it.. if yours cowers in the garage.. .well.. it really is your 'lil pony...
I do, I have Blizzaks on my stock rims (235/55/18) there actually considered small truck tires, but there much cheap then getting 'performance winter' tires and they aren't bad. Never once felt I was going to get stuck and I live in Chicago area.
I drive year round here in South East Michigan, with a 45 mile commute one way. No problems on my stock Pirelli all seasons. I'd like to try out some blizzaks this next year though.
Winter driving is no big deal - just have to be very careful the first snow fall since everyone seems to forget how to drive in the snow each year.

i use Dunlop Winter Sport M3s for the winter. I do not drive in over 3-4 inches of snow, because my front lip sits very low. but those tires are great for the money.
