Default Radar Hardwire Q

I'm looking at going for this mount with my 9500ix. Does anyone have any pics of it in a S197 from a couple different angles so I can see what it looks like.

http://www.countryjoycrafts.com/350Z/escortmount.htm

Also where would be the best place to hardwire the radar detector too as well. I know the hardwire kit comes with a wiretap thing and it recommends going to the fuse box in the panel. What wire should I look for in there. I need one that is switched with the car. Goes on when turned on and switched off when the car is turned off, unlike the cigarette lighter port(s).

Also anyone using direct wire kits, where did you mount the smartcord part, that has the mute button and 2 LED alerts.

Any help on this is appreciated.

I have the same radar detector and was looking at an alternative to the POS suction cup mounting system that comes with a $400+ radar detector. I like the idea of mounting it to the rear view mirror. As for the power wire, I'll see if I can find a switched 12v source that is accesible and get back with you.

We have all that dot matrix crap up by the mirror which will prevent the radar signal from hitting the detector. If you clean your windshield and the suction cups with stoners invisible glass and then just stick the suction cups on with no spit or water, they will stay. Then slide the radar detector onto the clip after the suction cups are attached to the windshield. I have mine mounted at the top of my windshield on the drivers side. I put the top edge of the suction cups on the bottom edge of the dot matrix tint. This makes it nearly impossible for anyone to see my radar detector unless they are standing right in front of my car. I ran a wire from the passenger fuse box up the passenger a-pillar and through the headliner to where my detector is. Go to advance auto parts and get a little kit called "add a circuit." They make two sizes, and you need the smaller one, b/c our cars have the mini fuses. You also need a couple of 10 amp mini fuses. Then you plug the "add a circuit" into fuse spot number 13 in the passenger footwell and then connect the hot wire to the "add a circuit." Then put two 10 amp fuses into the fuse slots on the "add a circuit," and you are done.

For the smart cord mount, I just left it coiled up behind the passenger footwell fuse panel. If you put the radar detector right in front of your face, but at the top of the windshield, it is very easy to hit the mute button and to mark false alarms. I set my 9500i to display the speed when I drive, and now I never even look down to check my speed, b/c its always easier to look at the detector.

i have that mount for the V1. LOVE IT!

if you have an auto dimming mirror, you can get the Invisicord. it plugs into the harness going to the mirror. no wiring, and no messy power cords.
