ok, i'm not really technical with cars to be honost... i want to make my car faster and i heard also will save some gas.. so i was wondering what is a relativly cheap (in price of course haha) combo that would give me more power and save me gas ?..
i was looking to spend around 450-500 dollars.. i'm not sure irf i'll be able to get something that cheap..
if not.. would cold air intake by itself give me a little more power and also save me some gas ? and would make car be louder ?
PS i got a 2005 mustang gt, auto transmission..

a cold air intake and tuner (which is a handheld computer, not just a chip) will run you about $650 if purchased new, and that comes with three tunes. With a CAI that does not require a tune you will pick up a couple more MPG's, experience the trademark air sucking sound in your engine, and maybe pick up around 5 HP, although some might say even that is a little generous. It's hard to qualify buying a non-tuned CAI at full price, but you can pick one up if you find a used one cheap and then buy a tune for it later

Well you actually don't need it installed by a mechanic, so you'll be saving some money there haha. The tuner is just "plug and play" and the CAI is really easy, doesn't take much mechanical skill. Actually, american muscle has a tutorial video, this site itself has a great writeup, and there are probably several other resources.

We don't rechip. We reflash. Do a combo CAI & tune. Rough price range is $550-$675 and it'll net you roughly 15-25 or more RWHP. A stand-alone CAI (one that doesn't require a tune) MIGHT net you 4-6 RWHP and might still throw a lean code. Combo all the way from either Brenspeed or Bama.
Save up another $250 and do it right with a CAI and Tune combo from one of the reputable tuners used by several forum members. A simple forum search will keep you busy with information regarding a CAI and Tune until you come up with the cash.

If your going to go with a Custom tune, don't bother with the intake that doesn't require a tune. I just bought one cause I couldn't pass up the deal, installed it and still threw a code. And it didn't require a tune. But I've not got a JLT and some tunes from Bama in there. She screams like a bat outta hell compared to stock now. Well worth the money.
