I got a non-fixable violation for tint on my lights written under "modifying a lighting accessory". It was a couple hundred dollars. I'd look into whether or not yours is a fixable violation and take it from there.

Just to throw in my .02, I have the tinted tails from AM which are nice and dark in the day but I have had friends drive behind me in the day and at night and they all say my tail lights show light just as bright as any other car.
