Default What In Dash Reciever is a good choice?

I want to get a new In Dash Receiver (Head Unit) for my 2006 Mustang, which is all stock right now and does not have the shaker stereo system.

What is a good In Dash Receiver ?

i do have some wants and needs for this reciever -

- Ipod Compatible
- Mp3 CD Compatible
- 3 PreOuts Preferred, might be able to handle 2 PreOuts
- HD Radio Compatible (Preferred)
- Itunes Tagging (Preferred)

- I would prefer a DVD Reciever that is touch screen, but most of them have USB and those arent always reliabe. (see Below)

i dont want to spend over $500 for the actual unit, not including the labor required to install.

A Head Unit that just has the Aux Input so that anything i hookup with a input able will play, the USB interface and the ability to control the ipod with the head unit isn't a huge deal to me, since i will ofcourse get a new ipod at some point or update the software of my 2nd Generation iTouch that i currently have, or maybe get an iphone soon.

this also ensures that my friends ipods will work with my head unit, and i dont have to worry about it being compatible with the Head Units interface

Unless there is a Receiver that works with all version types and will continue to always work.

Thank you in advance, and if you need clarification please ask, i want to get a good In Dash Head Unit soon!

I just got my kenwood ddx 512 in the mail today. its the touch screen, dvd, has the usb in the back and the aux in the front. You can add just about as many attachments as you want like hd radio, xm, sirus, gps, bluetooth, wheel controls, back up camera. Its has the ipod function too. It cost me 380 shipped from sonicelectronix.com. I got it in less then a week. I did quite a bit of reading about these and was like you wanted something cool but didn't want to spend a pretty penny to get it. I like it cause you always have the option to add all the other stuff as see fit.

Check out the Pioneer models, I've been looking at the AVIC series with Nav, but the AVH-P4100DVD is a touch screen dvd.

Here's an ebay listing for less than $500

The only problem i have is that the Receivers with the USB attachment, wont continue to work as my ipods software gets updated, and wont work with the newest version of whatever i buy, i.e. a new iphone

i would prefer to just have the Aux input feature so the receiver will work with everything i plug into it

Kenwood DNX series. I have the DNX 5120 but I think they are now 5123. The 7120 & 8120 series are what you are looking for.

quick question. What wiring harness did you use to plug yours in? I got the regular ford premium like 2005 and up or something, and crutchfield is saying i need another one that is way more expensive. Yours is a lot more fancy then mine but i imagine there probably pretty much the same when hooking up minus the extra do dads.

those are all to expensive for me, im looking for something $600 at most, thanks for the suggestions though.

the Pioneer AVH3100 and 4100 are perfect for me, but the USB ipod interface wont work on the newer versions of the ipod, and any ipod that comes out.

will those units work with just the aux plugged in? or do i have to use the USB also? thats is really my main concern with those 2 units

I went with the Kenwood DNX5120 when Amazon was blowing them out for 499. I have the iPod adapter, BT module and XM dock/Tuner. I have been so happy with this unit that I just purchased the newer DNX6140 for my Corvette. Here is a custom splash screen I had made for it...
