Default Hurst: Made in China??

Does it bother anyone else that the Hurst shifters are made in China? I just bought one and was surprised to see that it's made in China. The billet looks below acceptable quality and the press/pinned shifter fitting seems cheap. This is unacceptable to me considering the cost of the billet vs. competitors (such as Steeda) that manufacture in the US. I'll be returning the shifter back to Summit immediately and probably picking up a US made Steeda Tri-Ax, as I will not be installing any chinese parts in my stang.

Just wondering if everyone else is cool with it...

Wow that sucks. I would have thought hurst shifters, which has been around in American muscle cars since forever, would have been made here.

Makes me wonder where my TCI shifter is made...

Not cool at all.

That explains a lot. I'ld return it also. Perhaps there is a difference in the one available aftermarket and the on on the Shelby GT, you may want to look into that.

I'm planning to call Hurst tomorrow to see if the comp plus is made in China too, but I don't really have much faith. I'm guessing that they shifted all manufacturing to China, especially since there seems to be quite a few problems with them...

MGW is American made, and a better shifter too.

why don't people buy MGW to begin with I don't know. Sure it's more money. but it's worth every penny
No slopiness, nice and short. Me, and lots of others that had other brands then swapped to mgw will say it's the BEST out there hands down. and like goldenpony said. It's good ol american made heh

well from my standpoint, I wanted the look of the Hurst and thought it would fit my needs and expecations of quality, price was not a deciding factor. Looks like that one backfired on me...

My biggest gripe with the Hurst shifter is the vibration that comes through it to rattle my stock head. It's a better, tighter shift, but the sound transfer is not.

Anyone know if there is a better than stock Mustang shifter like the Hurst that doesn't transfer so much vibration??? Otherwise, I'm going back to my Stock shifter that had the Saleen peice in it for shorter throws. Stock was a bit "gummy" , but if I'm not holding my shift knob under hard acceleration now, it rattles like crazy. Erik

I installed the Hurst competition shifter, purchased through Summit Racing.
It rattled in third gear until I applied lubricant to the pivot.
The hurst is great. Not just good enough but great.
I believe you when you say the MGW is the best. But for me, no way is it so much better to justify the cost differential.
That is reason enough (again for me) not to buy the MGW.
