Oh yeah, I forgot Norm was God on here.

And it still stands...

It's a very stupid question that could have been Google'd. It's common car sense how to jump an f'n car. Give me a break!!!

<rises to the bait>
. . . Definitely not God.
I'm just an old guy who's had a few more years than most here to have had odd things like this happen, and more time to think about why the things I've been involved with went either right, horribly wrong, or somewhere in between.

As far as I'm concerned, the stupid question is the one not asked . . . I'm pretty sure that every single one of us here has asked questions concerning jumpstarting at some point in their life.

Internet forum discussions have a way of widening in scope and providing a variety of viewpoints that's generally lacking in most articles written by a single individual (however well-intended). I'd call that a good thing.

That's where you are wrong, the stupid question is the stupid question that is asked. And to say there is no stupid question is just to say that there is just stupid people, which in turn makes them ask stupid questions.

And to tell the honest truth, I can look back on my life and know that I have NEVER asked how to jump a car. I grabbed the damn cables and just did it...

ok guys, settle down

and yes, batteries do "explode"
the first one in my mustang decided it would have a cell explode without me jumpstarting anyone. now i had little places where the acid ate through the paint in the engine bay.

Um.... I don't know norm, nor do I feel he is god. I was just pointing out what you seemed to have overlooked. Last I checked the point of these forums was to help people out and share a love of mustangs. If your goal is to spread misinformation and be a tool in threads where newbies to the craft are asking simple questions, as opposed to just moving along cause you think it is a a "stupid question," then maybe its time for you to leave or get banned or something cause you are not contributing anything useful.

To the Op: Any time you have a question, feel free to ask it here. Anytime you take something for granted cause your too big a man to ask for help, your rolling the dice and sooner or later, one of these odd unlikely events happen and you end up getting seriously injured.

"happened 7/8/08
- exploded car battery ,farout ,DON'T EVER
- OVER CHARGE YOUR BATTERY
- IT EXPLODED LIKE A BOMB
- I WAS LUCKY THAT I PUT THE BONNET HALF WAY DOWN AS I UNPLUGGED THE CHARGER,THE SPARK MUST HAVE IGNITED THE HYDROGEN.
IT EXPLODED LIKE A BOMB
HALF DEAF FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS"

OP here.

Thanks much for the technical help and overall encouragement. Actually, I'm not a newbie to cars, but I'm not as familiar with the S197 as I'd like to be. I had been using an ohmmeter to try to find a good ground point. I discovered that a lot of the metal points under the hood that look as though they would be good ground points are not grounded. I wondered what you guys were using, and asked my question.

yeah, newbie not meant in any way insulting here, just making a point that we have all been new at something and the smart ones ask questions before they just jump in. Did you find the post I was talking about? On the manifold there are a few nuts that have like 2" of threading sticking up that Ford left for like push on rubber cable holders. Just pull the cap off and I think that would be a great ground point for you.
