Default Mustang vs. 300 lb Deer

Well, I feel kind of bad about this one. My friend volunteered to drive me to New Jersey to pick up a new winter beater in his 07 GT. Everything went well, I picked up the car-97 Mercury Sable- and we were on our way back to NY on I-287 travelling at 80-85 mph, when a huge suicidal deer jumped the gaurdrail dead in front of his car. I didn't even see brakelights until after I passed by the deer.

I've got to say these S197's are built like tanks. The deer hit over the bumper, so the airbags didn't deploy. The a/c condensor and radiator are pushed in about a foot and a half. The radiator support is wasted and the left structure is tweaked. The hood was ripped off the hinges. His JLT cai is crushed, Bullitt grille disintegrated, brand new Cali Special bumper is wasted, along with damage to the passenger fender and door,

Overall, I feel that insurance might total it, although it doesn't really look that bad for hitting a BIG deer at high speed. My friend Nick was completely injury free, outside of feeling bad about the deer and worse about his car.

It's good to hear your friend walked away from that. A friend of ours who was a state inspector was not so lucky. A deer jumped out in front of her Toyota Pickup and came through her wind shield killing her.
Let us know what they do to his car.

Not gonna be totaled.
But you're good for an aftermarket hood and fancier bumper.

Yeah, he's been wanting a GT500 front since I got mine. If the insurance will fix it he'll probably go for that. Sad thing is that he just did the Roush hood scoop, California Special front bumper, and Bullitt grille 2 months ago.

I was thinking totalled because my car had WAY less damage that his and my insurance paid $8000 to have it fixed.

287 is notorious for deer, actually all of north jersey is. I lived there for a long time and almost everyone i knew had hit a deer at one point. That sucks about the car, but at least your friend is ok.

I would remove the ref. about the speed you think he was going. I'm sure it seemed like 80+ but I have no doubt he was going the speed limit. Never underestimate what length an insurance company will go to avoid payment.
