Default Nitto NT-05 on stock 07 gt fanblades (18")

I have a black 07 GT (black with red interior) with the 18" fanblades. My problem is, I really like the fanblades over most aftermarket wheels I see

I also want to upgrade my tires down the road, which brings me to the dilemma of, is upgraded tires on the stock wheels worth it? I kno the stock wheels 8 or 8.5" width (if you know which...please give me a shout out on that too) will limit me in the width of tire i can get and is most likely the biggest issue against doing this.

I assume it is worth it to a degree, because how can better rubber be a bad thing? it's just that I dont see many on here doing it.

I usually dont care about being the guy to blaze a new trail, but I like to make sure I get my money's worth as well. so i'm looking for some insight from the very knowledgeable stangers here.

I know I will probably get a variety of viewpoints, and have no problems with it, I'll use it to make a decision, if you think I'm an idiot....by all means, dont hold back (caveat being, tell me why and please give at least a little advise)

thanks in advance gents (and ladies if applicable)

8.5" SHOUT.
255/45-18s or 275/40-18s are what you are looking for....
I have 255/45-18s on 18x8.5" OEM bullitts and am going
275/40-18 next time when these KDWs wear out.

Are you interested in the rubbing aspect and how to fix that as well??

nice bullits

ok, I feel less silly about my plan, but I thought 275's were a no no on 8.5" wheels (?!) you have 17's or 18's?

It depends on the sidewall profile. The lower the profile you go with, the closer you need to be to the tire recommendations.

I imagine I would like to stick as close to the sidewall height that is stock....as I like it as is. whats the 411 on going 275's on the back if I keep the sidewall height the same as it is now (again, 18" tires)

+1 on the 8.5" but I think you'll find most tire manufacturer recommendations will be 255's max on the 8.5" rims.

I suggest 255/45 and 275/45.

they are both only 0.5" shorter than the oem 235/50/18 size...so that is about 1/4" less sidewall than with the original rubber

and depending on the tire brand, there may be no change at all. No 2 brands are the exact same size...even though they claim the same size.

alot of people run the 275 width on their oem rims. And it is almost never an issue. It will become an issue if you are an autocrosser, or like to take corners really hard. that will cause alot of sidewall flex, and might possibly unseat the bead...causing a blowout.

for just your everyday street car, and straightline imitation drag racer...you will be fine with 275/45. I would not get the 275/40 though due to those sidewall problems mentioned previously

I know I will be running that combo on my 18x8.5 bullitts soon. Just have to wear out my POS KDWs rubber

So from 235 to 255 you gain about 3/4" width.

basically yes... however the actual foot print will depend on the section width and brand
