Default Concensus on the '10's increase of 15 Crank HP over the '05-'09's

I really haven't read that much about the '10's additional 15 crank HP. Is it simply due to Ford adding a few brain cells and loading a more aggresive tune or is there something else behind it? If it's the tune, then would the benefit of an aftermarket CAI & tune combo be a bit less (RWHP gain) on the '10 as compared to the '05-09's due to the stock tune being a tad closer to the custom tune's performance?

And it gained only 15 crank HP? Lame... Speaks tons about the benefit of a good custom or dyno tune, then.

They do not use the same CAI as the bullitt. It still has an air box but looks slightly different than the 05-09. Maybe it has a bigger hole in it but I'm not 100%.

The real reason is because they added a TB spacer.

They credit the +15 increase to the CAI.

I'm not sure about this; maybe someone else has a more definitive answer. Does Ford recommend either regular or mid-grade gasoline for the 2010, and would the higher horsepower be the rating for the higher octane gasoline?

I've seen the air box you're talking about and imprinted on the box and hose it says "cold air intake" with little snow flakes. I'm not sure what to believe since I don't often see CAI's in that kind of box

the 2010 Mustang is nothing more than a slightly restyled Bullet in the motor department, and a 90% Bullitt clone with Track Pack 2.
the "CAI" is more user friendly on the 2010. it's kinda like the Roush Closed Box CAI for the RoushCharger.
instead of doing a custom hoodliner and the whole shield for the CAI like they did in my car (FRPP CAI), the closed box CAI is easier & cheaper & more "user friendly" for the traditional buyer.

HP wise, it's not that noticeable. The normal 2010 GT with 3.55 gears feels pretty much like a 05-09 GT with 3.55 gears IMO.
the 2010 with 3.73 is where you really feel the difference. they really pull more, and felt like they had the same power as my Bullitt when I was shopping around before buying.
I don't know if the 2010 has the dual PCM Fuel strategies and the 6500 rpm rev band though. I would hope so. otherwise that 315 crank is pushing things closer to an uncomfortable A/F ratio IMO on 87 octane.

what gas do they require?
Ford might have done something like Dodge did with my old Hemi. 325 HP on 89 octane...but it didn't make that on 87 octane.

87 was recommended, but the owners manual had a blurb about using 89 octane to get the advertised HP/TQ #'s.

if you look at the 09 F-150 and Expy, you'll see the same thing. Ford basically just tweaked their PCM tunes slightly to produce a few more ponies, but still maintain a nice safe margin to the limits. They haven't changed a thing on the internals or electronics really.

IMO, Ford is banking on the new Eco-Boost, the 6.2L and the 5.0L motors in the next 1-2 years. but since Dodge/Chevy came out with all new stuff, they had to put up a little show to keep their buying base.
