I saw my brother put a line lock in one time, he never got those brakes the same had to take it in. He's mechanically inclined, example he could swamp an engine. Anyone attempting to mess with brakes when they don't need to is going to ruin their car, kill themselves or someone else.
Wow, good points. Manufacturers never give mis-information on the best way to keep cars running forever......And if you brother can pull an engine, but not handle line locks, then we should all avoid working on our brakes....And lastly I read it every day in the paper, "Man kills busload of nuns while picking children up from school because his brakes failed due to self-maintenance."

We can probably stop global warming by not bleeding brakes too, but that's a story for a different post.

Levi's has been making jeans for 100 years, why wash yours? Do you think Ford uses top notch fluids? No, they use what's economically sound for the application. Some people race/drive hard in these cars, the OEM fluids MAY not be the best fluid for that.

Facts. Where can I find that recommendation in writing?

Do you know the meaning of hygroscopic?

Well if he continues to swamp engines and you believe everything he's telling you, then where's that leave you? In the swamp, enjoy the swamp fever.

Hmm, you told me I was going to ruin my car changing the fluid in my differential, she's still running strong. So along as no one 'messes' with their brakes and they LEARN the proper method then everything turns out fine and we can all live to enjoy your paranoid maintenance rants. Next up, why you shouldn't change you oil for fear of ruining your car...

I am sure there are some guys here who probably should not do this because of limited mechanical aptitude or knowlege. I think that most of those guys know who they are and should seek help or take it to a repair shop. However thare are a higher number of guys here who can do this without a hitch and are not restricted to your brothers limitations or short commings.

Any car I have owned in the past 40+ years recommends changing the brake fluid at some interval, although it may vary from one manufacturer to the next. I believe a responsible car owner should try to follow the recommendations of the manufacturer, and that an accident is more likely to happen as a result of not changing the fluid as recommended.
