My shifter did the same thing when i got the car.

turn the car to on but dont start her
apply the Emergency brake
shift all the way to 1

use a flatblade screwdriver to pull up the plastic trim round the sifter, DONT SCRATCH IT

use tweezers to pull the black part down from the top
mine sat nicley in a small divot in the shifter so while it was there i got some superglue and stuck it down

i did this when i got the car in Jan 08 and its still in tact and i use my gears all the time and it hasnt pulled off

Their a guy on e bay that sells the update steeper motors with instuctions, or ford will sell you a new inst. cluster aprox 300.00. Alot off speedo repair shop know of this they want around 145.00 here in Fl. to fix it.

So if I buy that.. I then get someone to install it? I doubt I could do that stuff. You said people in FL are charging around $150?
