I posted this picture in another thread. It's an OEM S2000 antenna. I love the height and look, but the base is bit small. You can see it doesn't line up quite right. From 5-10 feet it's not that noticeable.
Search eBay for Isotta antennas. They're about 3 inches! I don't listen to the radio much because of my iPod but when I did listen to the radio, the quality seemed similar to the stock. I didn't hear any differences

Don't have the pics, but a buddy had our local custom shop do a $200 mod, deleted antenna altogether covered hole can't tell anything was there antenna is hidden in car now and gets lot better radio reception.
AJ helped me out quite a bit with this issue -- took those great pics.
Here's a closeup of the base with that antenna on my ride:
I'm not sure what the base width of those Isotta antennas are -- but they look nice. If you email the ebay supplier, see if the base is 1". These antennas are just under an inch (as you can see from the photos).
BTW, signal loss is not an issue for me, at least where I frequent.
I'd prefer no antenna as well They really need to integrate it into the chassis somehow. Heck, my mom's old buick had the antenna in the windshield. That might have been AM only though.

Come to think of it, a '79 Camaro I used to drive had the antenna in the windshield too. And it was for both AM/FM.
I'm not sure why that design idea didn't stick around in automobiles; sure it makes windshield replacement more expensive, but that couldn't have been the reason they did away with, right?
Maybe the reception through them wasn't so good. Too far back for me to recall.

I can recall as far back as 75. We had a 75 Pontiac Catalina with the antenna in the windshield. My 79 Camaro also had it in the windshield and my wifes 97 Honda Accord had it in the rear window glass (next to the defroster). None of these vehicles had problems with radio reception. I cant think of any reason unless they want to use it as a body fashion device. For functionality, the windshield works perfectly fine.
