Crazy, isn't it!? You need that much HP just to MOVE the damn thing. LOL

I thought Detroit changed the way they rated hp in 1972 which was a large part of why HP dropped so hard between 71 and 72? I thought I read something about engines requiring they be tested with full exhaust and smog equipment in 72 and prior to that they werent? Any truth to that?
Top Gear is still my favorite show, regardless of factual errors. I watch it because Clarkson is a giant, unapologetic ass, and its just about three guys thrashing the sh!t out of expensive performance cars and goofing off. How is that not good TV? Where else are you going to see a short British dude flip a jet car at record breaking speed, or a Corvette chasing a Ford Fiesta through a shopping mall?
your probably right and foot in mouth as I was not even a gleam in my fathers eye in 1972.....see I learn something new everyday on the forums. I read the other comments and was not going to say a thing until I was quoted.......thanks.....LOL

Hey I dont know if any of what I said is true or not. Its just what I THINK I read somewhere. I wasnt even an eye gleam in 82, let alone 72.... So dont think that I have any first hand knowledge of anything that happened at that time, lol.
SAE ratings changed from "gross" to "net" about 1972, and compression ratios on the higher performance engines were already on the way down in 1971.
As far as I know, mfr-advertised HP and torque ratings have always been measured at the flywheel, though the test conditions and treatment of the results have certainly varied over the years.
Not really light, but bad reading though... I shall study.
