Default Quality of Mustangs

Just a side note to all of the threads on this forum. When I had my VW's, I could get on passatworld or vwvortex any day and find at least one new thread with a car being parted out. which was great because I could get replacement parts cheap. I noticed that since I've been on here in July I have only seen one or two part out threads (not great when looking for replacement parts but I don't actually have anything that needs to be replaced yet). is that because these simply don't die as often or because people don't part out? I'm willing to bet its the reliability of it. Any thoughts?

Check out the latest issue of Consumer Reports. The Mustang V6 made it on the list as one of the 5 most reliable cars in the sports and sporty car category.

I don't know if you are talking about older cars versus newer cars or different brands of newer cars.

I think it is more difficult to part out a newer car than an older car. If you wanted a seat from an older car, you found one that was a good match and you were set. Now you have to be concerned with sensors for the air bags, maybe power seats, heated seats, etc.

A bumper is no longer just a piece of metal. It is a painted cover, a crush area, and then some metal.

And so forth.

After only 4 years, do you expect Mustangs to be littering the road? Despite my feelings that my Toyotas will still be running long after my Stang is a pile of rusted garbage, I DO believe most Fords will still go a few more years than 4 before they become available for parting out.

my golf and 1st passat were still the current generation when I was finding hundreds of parted out cars. my W8 was 4 years old (when it melted done basically) and even though there were only 10,000 in America total it was easy to find a parted out one. I just haven't been coming across many Mustangs that have just died. I did see when I bought my 2005 that most people who owned one said they had had to do little to know maintenance. I'm just glad I have a car know that isn't $320 to replace an axle seal, or $3,500 for a torque converter, or $100 for a 2 foot piece of plastic hose. And most importantly, nothing is breaking. Normal wear and tare on a VW means that everything plastic needed to be replaced and its was expensive to do it.

Aren't most of the 2005+ stangs still under warranty? That probably plays a pretty big role; why part it out when you can get whatever's busted fixed for nothing?

Okay, so maybe the 2005s aren't in warranty Just a thought...

These cars are built on a modern platform, if you take care of these cars, they will last as long as any toyota. I had an 84' Celica which lasted me 14 years, had issues, and currently I have a 97' Acura RL, and it's had some issues, but is still going. My stang is so filled with aftermarket parts, I don' know how long it will last. I see plenty of people in really nice conditioned 90's Mustangs, so I guess they do OK. Erik
