Another option for 2005 and 2006 owners it harmon kardon's Drive+Play...
My ipod stays in the glovebox. All connectors are inthe dash. Controller is on the dash, to the right of the steering wheel, and operates the same as the iPod click wheel. The display is mounted in the map light area. It shows me what is playing, playlists, etc. It is like having the iPod screen at your disposal. I mounted it in the map area because it isn't as easily seen by would-be thieves and it (the map light piece) issmaller piece to replace if I uninstall it.

I had the same thing in my car. Pics below. It is a good device. I took it out when I put my Kenwood and got their ipod adapter, I hate it. You can't seemenu of the names of the bands. I put the HK Drive and play back in my truck. I am waiting for the HK Drive and Play II. It comes out this fall. It is color screened and will also accomadate the MS Zune as well as Ipod. Plus with an adapter, you can use it for BlueTooth and sirius radio. Also the controller is wireless, so no wires sticking out. Alsosince you know the HK first one, it doesn't have the big module. All the electronics is incorporated in the screen,

I got this and love it (link below). Its the PeripheralIsimple one you play through the Cd player and will work for theshaker 500 or 1000 as long as it says "aux" on it. Its 100.00 and you hardwire it into the back of the cd player instead of useing the diffrent stations.
+1 on the DLO. I drive all around the Mid-Atlantic states and I have had no problem. Just program one really low FM station and one really high station and usually one of them works almost everywhere. BTW, I have the Shaker 1000 but I doubt that makes any difference.

+10000 ... I have this and the ipod is hidden and wired through my center console. Took 2 hours to install, you cant see one wire and it's extremely clean. Sound quality is better than cd, 500x better then those crappy fm modulator things. The best part is you dont have your ipod visible because that looks really cheap and cheesy. I highly reccomend this. ALSO, its the 07's that have the headphone jack standard with them not the 06's

While not a direct connect, my son uses something called an iTrip that basically transmits his song list to an FM station of his choice. Seems to work fine. I could see some issues on a long trip, depending on the station.

Yes the iTrip is horrible for long trips with breaks in radio reception. My friend and I used one in her 2004 Chevy Silverado on our way to LA (350 mile one way trip) and we only got like 1 1/2 hours of actual use the whole time! It sounded horrible if the radio reception wasn't perfect
