So i bought a battery tender. the battery tender is about $60-$70 dollars but is well worth it. The battery tender just plugs into the wall and is like jumper cables and hooks on to the battery only you leave it on all the time and when the battery gets lower then what it should be it will start charging it and when tis back up it will turn off. My battery hasnt gone dead in a year in a half to 2 years. They also said that it was from the alarm so i turned it off and it still went dead but now that i have the battery tender it hasnt gone dead ever since i got it.
+10 on the Battery Tender Plus. I have had mine for about 2 months now and plug it in to the cigarette lighter. FANTASTIC!

Before getting the Battery Tender I would pull fuse #16 from under the hood. That powers the Shaker 500 door amps. That helped a lot, but was a pain.

I did a write up on this a couple yrs back. It is for the shaker radio. It will from time to time stay powered up (inturnally) even with the key off till it drains the battery( 4-5 days). If I turn the radio off before key is removed it will always be fine. I have had the shaker 500 replaced 3 times with no help to the problem. Not sure if an aftermarket Radio will do the same.

Default 2007 GT dash goes crazy when battery goes dead

I see from the postings that I am not the only with battery issues. I have a 2007 GT with 13000 miles on it. Due to the Military I have been gone for the last 2 and 1/2 weeks. My wife went into the garage to start the car for me and the battery was dead. From what I am reading according to this thread, it is a normal problem. My question is, has anyone else experienced, when the battery gets to low to start the car, the electrical system goes nuts? My wife told me over the phone that the dash lights would not shut off when she took the key out all the warning lights were lit up and the on board computer was flashing all kinds of messages. I talked her though how to use a fluke and it only had 7.5 volts, so I had her disconnect the battery. Any info would be great, thanks.

Thanks for your service to our country.

Yeah, when the battery gets low, all kinds of crazy things happen.

Make sure the radio is turned off with the button on the radio before you open the door. Do not count on opening the door to turn the subwoofers off.

If you can hook up a battery tender, that would be good.

If you are still in the 3/36 warranty, the dealer should give you a replacement battery at no cost.

I have a Pioneer Avic D3 stereo/GPS and my battery went dead after 8 days vacation. I bought my car around the middle of October 2007. This is the first time it's gone dead. I did not take out the GPS DVD or turn off the radio. I also had a power converter connected inside the car that allows hook up of a standard electrical plug. That stayed in during my vacation. I haven't checked the water in the battery. I guess I should do that in the morning. I jumped the car with our Escape, drove it about 15 minutes and it started fine the next morning. Something's draining that battery. I guess there are lots of small electrical drainage items in these cars.

Default 05 GT Coupe with crappy electrical system

I to am expieriencing this battery problem with my 05 coupe. I have replaced the stock Shaker 500 HU with a Pioneer AVIC Z3, replaced the stock battery with red top Optima, and the stock alternator with a PA Performance 130amp alternator. Still cant leave the car for more than 14-15 hours without the battery draining enough that nothing will work. That is even with driving for several hours at times prior to parking. I am going to local stereo shop in the am to try to trace the power draw down. I may also upgrade wiring from alternator to a 0 gauge wire, and upgrade factory ground to 4 gauge. Will report back in a few. Will have the shop look at the radio fuse and fog light relay though.

I just got back from the dealer for the second time for the same reason. A DEAD BATTERY. I drove my stang to Virginia Beach came back to Jersey let it sit in the driveway for 2 days and the battery was toast. The TSB for states that a battery tender should only be necessary if the vehicle is underdriven or sits for 30 days! The dealer told me that the computer begins to discharge the battery after the car sits for more that 12 hours. This is a Ford problem, and this should be corrected by Ford. Plugging your battery to a tender every other day is a total pain in the ass!!

Default Dead battery

Hello folks I have joined the club !

Two weeks ago I had a dead battery. Dealer told me to bring it in. Car was there for more then 5 days ! When I picked it up they told me that they traced the draw from fuse 59 in the battery junction box ? From there they traced it to the smart junction box - didn't know this car had so many boxes ??? They also replaced and reprogrammed the smart junction box.

Drove the car during the weekend...without any issues...didn't use the car for three days and...yes I have a dead battery again !!!

What should I believe from the dealership...did they really look after the problem. Called them and have to bring it in again ! I hate to have my car there and they are just messing around without knowing what they are really doing.

I am thinking to charge the battery and do the "CD unload thing"...I also have always six CD's in there...hopefully this helps ? The thing I don't understand is why did this issue just starting now ? I have the car since February 2008 and only have this issue one and a half year later ? Can someone explain ???

Thanks folks

I'm not talking about what should happen in a perfect world. I'm talking reality. Your battery may have gone bad in that length of time. If you have the original battery, it should have battery caps. If you don't already have a battery hydrometer, buy one for about $5. Check each cell. If you find one or more bad cells, then ask the dealer for a free replacement, assuming you are you are still within the 3/36,000 bumper to bumper warranty.
