Some things to know about when shopping for insurance companies:

1) They don't all discount for the same things. I.e. Dual air bags, antilock brakes, passive restraint systems, etc. What one insurance company considers a big deal, another may consider pretty standard these days and may not dicount for it. Mercury insurance for example no longer considers Air bags a discount, even though my wifes Escape has the side impact as well as frontal. Same goes for Anti-lock. Doesn't mean you'll pay more (Mercury happens to be the cheapest for both our vehicles), it just means they have a different discount structure.

2) There are differences in types of coverage - Full (aka Comprehensive) and liability - that by itself can cause your rate to nearly double (you choose comprehensive over liability)

3) Age: most companies give a big break over 25

4) Amount of coverage (medical bills, liability, deductible etc) Some states have minimum coverages that have to be taken into account. The insurance company will not let you get away with less that what state law requires. I.e. AZ requires a minimum of $5000/15,000 in Medical liability so I can't get $2500/10,000. So of course I'm going to pay more for that than someone who CAN get it in their state.

5) Many companies have multi-car discounts so Joe Blow that has the lowest rate with XYZ company may not get such a break with only 1 car vs 2 or more.

6) Driving records, mercury looks at the last 3 years, others may look back as far as 7. Some rely on your honesty (because driving records let things fall off after 3-7 years). Others look only at your driving record.

7) Last but not least, many companies are starting to look at your credit score... yes really. That means your maxed out credit cards can count against you when it comes to your insurance. Mercury looks at that. So does Geico. State farm is considering it. Allstate, not sure.

8) best advice, do your own shopping. It's nearly impossible to compare your rate against someone elses unless you have ALL the numbers in front of you. Make sure you compare apples to apples, same covereage options through various companies. Don't let a company get away with quoting you with higher deductibles and lower coverage options to make themselves look cheaper.

2006 Mustang GT
Age : 31
Monthly Payment : $102
Discounts that you may have : defensive driver (speeding tickets), active alarm

My insurance is Progressive and its for full coverage on two vehicles, the other is a 2003 Explorer Limited. I'm not sure what the payment would be on the Mustang only.

06 GT, 18 years old, $465 every 6 months. The loop whole in full effect here. As long as I dont get a ticket or have a wreck I don't have to worry about betting my name put on the insurance.

hahhahahaha.... as long as you don't ...that's a huge risk. Not because you might cause a wreck but because someone else may. Are you considered a 'part-time' driver on the stang?
