Replace or hide antenna?

Replace or hide antenna?
Soon the Mustang will be parked outside of my house, so the plans start running in my head!
I I just can't get over WHY Ford put that ENORMOUS antenna in that bad spot?
Have anyone tried to hide it, or replace it with a smaller or a motordriven antenna?

RE: Replace or hide antenna?
The antennae is 34" long to match mid-band FM waves which enable you to have excellant reception. No one at Ford decided to put a long antennae on the Mustang without good reason.
There are after market "stubbies" available, check with at any accessory site.

RE: Replace or hide antenna?
I hated the base as much as anything else. Now I'm happy it's in the OE takeoff parts bin. Thanks to Ford they put 3 mounting holes in addition to the main hole so you can't go to a nice aftermarket power antenna there. I welded mine up; have TuneTraper under the dash; it will give you 80-95% of what you had in FM and no AM. I thought I might go with a rear qtr (next to decklid) power unit, but I find I'm into CD's more now than ever. ...Jim

I tried one of those shorty antennas but my reception went downhill, and even the stations that came in well still sounded muffled.
Many people recommend just cutting the OEM antenna to the desired length and reattaching the ball at the top. Of course NOBODY ever has an adverse effect on reception from doing this.
There was one guy who got an antenna replacement that went behind the windshield and had the original removed and the hole filled and painted. Don't remember if he was here for some other forum. That is the route I eventually would like to go but I don't want to hurt reception.
As far as satellite, that is a good option but should not be the sole way to get radio in the car.

98MHz needs an antenna about 31 inches long; that is the quarter wavelength for 98MHz!
Sorry to hear that folks who use the smaller ones are having reception problems, but that is to be expected!
Thx,
