I didn't read the entire post (13 pgs) but has anyone mentioned that Ford does have felt replacments for the "rubber" aka the tint damaging weather stripping? I did some research and $70 later the problem was solved. The part numbers are:

I would think even though i have an 05, I would want the 08+ style, unless they are most likley the same.

Agreed. Tint Protector Felt is all you need. Don't buy the cheap moleskin felt. It will fall off. Been there done that. Tint Protector felt is the only one that works.

8R3Z6321456A and the other number listed above is the right part number. Ford fixed the soft side of the strip after 2008. I bought them, 2008 version for my 2006 GT from newfordparts.com and they fit great and stopped the scratching.

Or just buy the Tint Protector felt kit for $25. It's 1/3 of the price of buying brand new ford seals and does the same job just as well.

This may have answered my question, but I'll comment anyway.
I have a 2010, and the inside weather stripping seems to be pretty soft. I'm wondering if anyone has has scratching problems with tint on a 2010. Or if anyone's tinted a 2010 with the moleskin felt installed.

The 2005 - 2008 needs the Tint Protector kit.

Well I just checked my car out. I don't have tint. But I guess Ford cheaped out on my 07 GT, because I don't even have the velcro backing on the inside of the window. Mine is just rubber, which will scratch my tint when I get it done. Guess I better order some felt. Does anyone elses 07 not have any felt lining on their cars?
The Mustang is the easiest of all the Tint Protector felt kits to install. You just pop out the weather strip and apply.

Anyone buffed out their windows?
Ok... read all the posts.... still have questions....
I've got my older son's 99 for my youngest to use in a couple years.
Windows look like crap.
Older son said the tint was peeling so he cut it off.
THAT's when it really looked like holy hell.
The OUTSIDE has fine scratches. Inside is smooth. Outside refracts light. If it catches the light just right it's like looking thru milk. Running water down the outside fills in the scratches and it becomes clear again. Here in TX that water isn't on there very long. I'm tempted to wax the windows or coat them.
Barring that, I may try and buff them out. Never tried before but they are very fine.
Of course I will replace the outer window seals.
Looking at the rear window tint, I have to understand his cutting out the windows. Must have been put in by a trained ape. Back looks more like bubble wrap than anything else now. Presumably the window tint made it harder to see the refracted light from the outer scratches.
Anyone buffed out their windows.... successfully?
