Manual Shifter knob; twists on stalk?

Manual Shifter ****; twists on stalk?
I just noticed on my '06 GT manual trans that the shifter **** twists on the stalk. Not like it is ready to fall off, but it does twist, is therefore always off-center, and seems to be getting looser.
I can't find or feel any set screw or nut, though I have not removed the boot. Is this a common problem? Is there an easy fix, or does this warrant a trip to the dealer?

When you say "take off the shift boot," I assume that you mean remove it from the console so that it can rotate with the shift **** and then put back into place on the console (assuming that the shift **** is centered.
Any tricks to getting the shift boot off of the console? How does it attach/detach?
thanks.

Mine was very loose from the factory as well. There is a collar at the top of the boot ... hold it in place while tightning the shifter ... just keep tightining until it's lined up and can barely tighten any more .... mine is solid as a rock now ... You don't have to remove the boot at all ...

No, there is a ring around the top of the shift boot. This ring is wrapped around the bottom of the shift ****. You can either simply tighten the shift **** by turning it clockwise until you feel happy. Or you can remove the shift boot and do it. I think the **** has about 1 - 1 1/2" of thread, the rest is just hollow space. If you were to remove the **** you would be spinning it forever and ever and ever. (Unless of course you finally pulled it off, because you won't know if it's unthreaded completely unless you pull it upward.
Hope this helps.

I just fixed mine based on this advice, and it worked like a charm. I just popped off the bottom of the boot from the console (very easy... too easy if you ask me) and rotated the **** one revolution clockwise. She is as tight as a ..... ok nevermind but we're all good now !!
