MM & FF article: 05 GT 12 seconds with bolt ons
Just read an article in MM & FF about getting into the 12 second range with two 05 GTs one Auto and one Stick with basic bolt ons.
Auto had a 4.10 gear, torque converter and a CAI and was pulling off high 12's. The stick was also near high 12's with minor bolt ons. Both cars had slicks too. I don't know but I have seen similar bolt ons posted here and have never seen anyone getting 12's with out a power adder. Has anyone else seen this article? Is anyone here running 12's with a few bolt ons and some weight reduction? If this article 100% legit then I guess I am feeling better about taking on some of the competition.

WRECH - please forgive my ignorance. What are CHE UCAs ? To the original poster. I've seen a few of these cars get into high 12's NA. It is possible. That is my goal. I plan to add 4.10's upgraded lower control arms, better shifter and engine mounts and long tube headers with an x pipe. I've run a best of 13.3 with a cold air kit and a 92 otcane tune so I am hoping a high 12 is within reach.

I hope it is that easy. They used some weight reduction too. [8D]

Yeah, you Jersey boys really seem to know your Mustangs well(envious!). I've had contact with Mr. Campisano(former Ed. of MM&FF)
and those guys at MM&FF are very legit. They always tell the truth, I've been a subscriber since the early 90's. They had a '93 SVT Cobra out drag a LT-1 Z/28 back in '93. I'm sure they used every advantage....but they do print everything done to vehicle and what driving techniques were employed. You gotta realize too that they rent the track they use(usually E-Town) and have a repeated test session to get the best numbers. The "heat soak" issue is a big topic in the S197 V-8 drag times....and they've address that too.
12's with a basically stock S197? Easy, biggest thing is traction, gears and driving technique. CAIs, Tunes and weight reduction just drive the point(running 12s) further, remember though they use professional drag racers to get those times. The Mustang IMO has definitely the best all around performance per dollar spent potential of any car out there(now that the SRT4 Neon is dead). JMO

Yeah, it's nice to have those guys in the neighborhood.
As for heat soak...I've noticed as much as .15 to .20 difference between hot lapping and cool down.
If you need the practice and you have a slow track night hot lap and more hot lap to work on your technique. Once you get the track and the car dialed in, go for a good cool down. Then shoot for a good time.

One thing that will affect your et is location in regaurds to altitude, weather, track conditions. But unless you have a serious hp advantage the race is won in the 1/8 mi

Acutally, they got the best times out of the stick car with the stock 3.55 gears. Only the auto car had the gears.
Looks like they were into the 12's with just the intake and tune W/slicks. They then went further and got into the mid 12's still with the 3.55 gears.
Makes me rethink the supercharger idea. Unless I can bolt one on and run mid-11's out of the box. Why spend the money or put up with the 140lb chunk of metal under the hood throwing the distribution off??

I understand what you're saying, I was just mentioning in a stick car, gears and drag tires should be enough for 12's(with driving practice). That's about $1000.00 maybe less. A CAI, with drag radials and tune will probably be around the same price(maybe a shade more)...I guess it's pick your weapon, huh? To get in the 12's for about a grand is simply amazing...enuff said!
