RE: help on gas cap light
I had a similar problem a while ago. Researched it on this forum and concluded that the fix was to disconect the battery for 15 minutes. When reconnected system had reset itself and "check fuel cap" error was gone and hasn't been seen since.

I then took it over to my friends garage and he called his buddy up at the same dealership and he said to disconnect battery for 15 minutes so thats what we did. It fixed that problem. But my milegae was reset to about 6 or 7 miles per gallon. It slowly climb over the weeks. I really dont know if it affects the mileage itself or its just a read out. It is fine now. I usually get around 14 - 15 locally driving. We went to Nashville which is about 830 miles from us and back and it read 30 miles per gallon. But its going back down since i drive locally

RE: help on gas cap light
We've got about 5000 miles on an 06GT and just had this problem. The cap was totally loose but the error light didn't come on until a quarter tank down. Don't know if it wiggled loose or whether someone tried to steal our gas. Couldn't get rid of the error light either. The dealer said there's a lot of poblems with these caps sealing. They gave us a new one. We wanted a locking one but they said there aren't any that work and the tanks are siphon proof anyway with some sort of ball check in the down spout.
