Hi,
my shaker unit just crashed and instead of going trough the hassle and logistics nightmare of having it replaced (live in the uk), I am considering getting a Kenwood, Pioneer, Eclipse 6.5" dvd unit along with navigation (nice little feature to have occassionaly) in place of the old "skipper".

Only doubt I'm having is to wether or not the navigation would be compatible with Europe? Possible to just slot other cd/dvd's in and European navigation sorted? Or is it more complex than that?


Hope someone is more wise in this subject than me or have good contacts making it easy to find out.

if no one can answer your question just call the kenwood or pioneer or whoever and ask them about the area that you live in.

Problem is that I cannot find the headunits I like outside the US. Hence the post, as it's a bit of a pain to call America everytime I wanna find something out.

I rely on you guys to do that for me.

Also, considering that you probably live in the US and I live in the UK, as stated in original post, we will most likely never cross paths anyway.

What I was actually asking was, if the US based NAVIGATION systems would work in europe with just a mere switch of cd/dvd's or not?

But perhaps there is something wrong in following directions from a navigation system?

I am assuming you are refering to Regional Coding of the Navigation discs, correct?
If not, then what do you mean by "compatible with Europe"?

Basically what I'm worried about is that on most websites for the navigation systems say that they only cover the US and Canada. For example the Kenwood double din and pioneer avic's and so on...

What I'm wondering is if the CD/DVD based systems could cover Europe with a change of discs to ones from kenwood europe for example? Or if they are not at all capable of covering Europe?

You might want to contact the company (like pioneer or kenwood) and ask them this question.

The problem with here is that there aren't a whole lot of people outside the US or Canada here, and less that have a navigation setup. I would send an e-mail to these companies and ask them if you can buy disks for the UK. I don't think anyone on here is going to have any info about it.
