Quieting gear whine--solution found.

RE: Quieting gear whine--solution found.
Well, so far so good. There's about 1000 miles on the new oil. I've been giving my "lead foot mod" a good workout, and so far so good. In fact, it actually seems like it's getting BETTER over time. Now I suppose that could be psycological, but whatever the case I am very happy with it.

Well, I tried it and it didn't work for me.
I'm thinking perhaps it may be the U-joint where the 2 pieces of the drive shaft are put together. Either that or its at the rear of the tranny where the driveshaft exits. Or , it just plain didn't work.
No way to tell really, b/c it won't make the noise if it's up on jack stands, b/c the driveline won't be under load.
Anybody know if there's a grease fitting or something at that U-joint, I haven't looked.
Thanks

RE: Quieting gear whine--solution found.
Ok this thread got my interest so i decided to call the redline tech department about this shockproof oil. 1st off he did say that heavy shockproof oilwill quiet the gears some but did not recommend itfor street use do to poor flow in cold conditions. He recommends using the viscosity that the car calls for. In this case redline 75w-140, and since itisn't shock proof it probably won't help with noise. He also doesn't recommend using it on warranty vehicles do to the odd color. Coming form a tech's point of view, Iwould question a noisy rear coming to the shop with red oil in it. So i guess use itat your own risk ,and let us know howitworks come winter time.

Hate to bump a four year old thread, but was curious how the Redline Heavy Shockproof performed after all of these years in your 8.8 rear end.
I put it in mine yesterday to help with the gear whine, and it did quiet the whine down significantly. Also, did it affect your mpg at all?

Well, at least I'm only bumping a year old thread... ;-)
Anyone else had success with this? Does it damage the diff over the long haul?
Thanks,
