My 07 GT is quiet as a church mouse now that I installed some Koni struts and shocks. It helped the ride and handling. Now that I have the car the way I want it, along comes the GT5.0. Now I have to start over again, but that's progress.

ISSUE
Some 2005-2010 Escape, Escape Hybrid, Mariner and 2006-2010 Mariner Hybrid vehicles built on or before 10/9/2009 may exhibit a click/pop noise from the front end when going over bumps. This may be due to the stabilizer bar end link to strut (upper) attachment.

ACTION

Follow the service procedure to correct the condition.

SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Using chassis ears, can the click/pop noise be isolated to the stabilizer bar end links?

a. No - Do not continue with this procedure. Follow normal Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 204-00 diagnostics.

b. Yes - Proceed to Step 2.

2. Inspect the stabilizer bar end link to strut (upper) attachment nuts for signs of looseness. Is any evidence present of loose upper nuts?

a. No - Replace stabilizer bar end links and install revised upper nuts per WSM, Section 204-01.

NOTE THE REVISED, TALLER NUTS CANNOT BE INSTALLED ON THE STABILIZER BAR END LINK LOWER ATTACHMENT.

b. Yes - Remove and replace both upper nuts with revised, taller nuts per WSM, Section 204-01. Torque to 46 lb-ft (63 N.m). It is not necessary to replace the stabilizer bar end link.

Since upgrading to the Konis my stabilizer links have loosened up twice after driving on crappy roads in two different cities. First time I just tightened them. This time added lock washers under the nuts. If they loosen again I'll buy new nuts. Odd how a barely loose nut can make your car sound like it's got loose lumber under the front end. Just added the washers a couple of days ago, will post again after some time on the road.

Did you torque the nuts to spec?

Mine were the upper links that connect to the strut. Couldn't torque to spec as the threaded portion of the link would turn with the nut, had to use a wrench on the end to keep it from turning. Tightened them down as tight as I could get them, so far everything is fine after adding the lock washers. I'm back in Durham with the crappy roads so will let you know in a few days how it's going. Was going to add Loctite to the nuts also but forgot to do it. May not be needed now.

This is a TSB 07-18-2....on hold with Ford customer service as we speak...the dealer wants to charge $460.00 to have this problem(that Ford and my dealer are well aware of) fixed.
