Problem With American Muscle & SCT XCal
So here is the deal - I ordered my SCT XCal II from American Muscle and recieved it on Dec 1. I followed all the instrutions exactly as they say and my stang wouldn't take the tune. My stang just goes into "fail safe mode" and wont let me bring the RPM's past 3500. I programmed it back to stock and everything was fine. Seeing as how I work with Radio Equipment - I wasn't upset because sometimes things like this may need a little troubleshooting. I emailed Nick (customer service support for american muscle) and explained my situation. Nick sent me a new tune and well that didn't work- now my stang wont go past 3000 RPM's [:@] . Once again it was back to stock for me & everything was fine. Well it's been 17 days now (nearly a month) and I'm begining to get a little frustrated because my stang isn't tuned. I expected a little troubleshooting but dam a month! I emailed Nick (15th email between him and I) again and he says that he hasn't gotten any emails from me. Now I'm IRRITATED!! I'm nice in the email and just cut paste my past 3 emails into one and send that. Well thinking about the whole thing and getting a little pissy about it I email the company (not being a dick) and let them know that I'm a little displeased in the customer support. I get no responce from neither them nor Nick in 4 days.
So last Friday I called the manager of American Muscle to see if there was another route to take. I wasn't looking to return the tuner but looking for another alternative as I explained. I asked if there was maybe a local dealer that could do it no charge. He says no that going threw them would be the fastest. Then he says that I need to understand that it is the holiday season & if I was to go somewhere else that I would be charged for customer support. [:@] [:@] Ok-- Now I'm mad!!! No **** they would charge me-- did I buy the SCT from them? Umm No- therefore yes I would be charged for customer support. On the otherhand I bought it from you & your company and would expect NOT to be charged for it. I didn't spend 400 dollars on a car part that you can't support. If you can't support it then don't sell it. He just said that they are working something for me and that Nick will get back to me. Yeah I'm sure that he'll get back to me after I email him yet again after no emails for 5 days with the responce that he didn't recieve my emails (but he got the first 12 right). I guess We'll see...
I can use anyones help who had an SCT issue here. This is what my stang is doing and these are the codes that my computer throws with the second tune that I recieved from them.
DTC: None Found
Strategy Code: FBJR3G5
I have clue what that means but if anyone has ideas or better yet knows let me know so that maybe I can correct it without American Muscle. Oh- not sure if this will help but the 1st tune they sent had the same strategy code but also had P2106 & P061B as the DTC.
Thanks in advance for your help!

RE: Problem With American Muscle & SCT XCal
I would say your best bet would be to return it and go through a different company that knows what they are doing with the custom tunes. Any of the popular tuners would be good.

Haze 28- I thought about doing that too. I emailed Brenspeed and didn't tell that about the situation but asked if they could send me a tune and they said sure just tell them what I needed. I dont think that it's the tuner- I think it's the tune.

RE: Problem With American Muscle & SCT XCal
I would expect this from American Muscle. Not that there's anything wrong with them per se (I have had good service from them), but they are a discount wholesaler. When you buy a tuner, you need to buy it from a shop that actually tunes customer's cars, not just a discount warehouse.
Imagine going into Wal-Mart and trying to get detailed technical help for a stereo or a video camera. That's what's going on here.
Talk to Brent at Brenspeed. Not only will he take care of you, but he will give you a better tune than the default one you got from American Muscle.
Buying a tuner from a shop like Brenspeed not only gets you competent service, but it will also give you a GOOD tune, not some one-size-fits-all garbage.

Thanks CrazyAl! I'm pretty new to the forum & didn't even look that much into it. I know better now and did infact email brent. They are willing to send me the new tune- it just sucks that I'm @ssed out on the one that was supposed to come with it and now I have to buy a new one. Well I learned from this mistake let me tell you.

Moses,
If it's any consolation, you won't be disappointed with the Brenspeed tune. It sounds like the canned tune you got through American Muscle was not set up to match the strategy of your PCM. Brent knows all about this, and I'm sure you guys have already discussed it.
Get ready for some fun with the new tune!

RE: Problem With American Muscle & SCT XCal
Sorry, but gotta throw in my .02 cents. American Muscle (Mustang Tunning) wanted to charge me $300 to ship a set of wheels and tires. Yes, I'm in Germany, but it's a Military US address with a NY zip code. Shipping isn't that much more. I emailed them numerous times to no avail. Discount tire charged me $60...exactly what USPS charged. Way to support the troops, huh? Needless to say, I will never do business with American Muscle.
O.K., back on topic...

Moses, have you tried contacting SCT direct? If you explain the situation, maybe they will help you with a new updated tune. If not, I would seek a custom tuner as the others have said.
