I personally would rather have them on in my car, because California's got this crazy law now that if you're driving your car and it's raining enough to where you have to turn on your windshield wipers, you need to turn on your headlights. With DRLs, I never have to worry about getting stopped for that. It's stupid, but my dad got stopped for it the other day in his Jaguar, and the cop let him off with just a warning, but it's now required. Stupid law, I know, but...

If jts is correct regarding the "new and improved" SJB, does anyone know if a non-dealership shop can do the programming? I'm having a Hurst shifter installed and getting a Dyno tune soon at a local shop that specializes in Ford cars, and I'd to know if they can change the settings. (Of course I'll ask them, but I'd like to know beforehand if anyone out there knows the scoop.)
I actually like the idea of DRLs - most of the time. What I don't need is to have DRLs + center driving lights. If the DRLs could be programmed to go off when the centers come on, then I would be a happy camper.

Yes it's not a stupid law, a lot of states have that law, like NJ for example. It allows the driver behind you to see your tail lights in the rain, I see no reason why this would be considered "stupid".
As for the lights staying on, I would say I bought the car the way without the lights staying on and that's the way I want it fixed.

As I am learning, the SJB is an electronics box that controls lights (and maybe a few other things).
I had the much discussed water leak in the passenger side column which killed the box. I noticed a problem when I was getting ready to leave for work and one of my tail lights stayed on, even after I checked all the lights and turned the car off.

I had my SJB replaced in my 2005... sure enough I ended up with DRLs.... I asked the dealership to turn them off... they tried everything they could think of and couldn't get them turned off... My main problem with the DRLs is that I forget to flip the lights on when it's dark... oops... stupid I know... but my GM vehicles with DRL have autmatic headlights...
