Does the whole mirror have to come off? Or can the mirror glass be pulled off and tighten the torx screw which is still attached to the car?

if you want it to be easier to work with, the whole mirror has to come off; it's very easy to get off, though.

*** edit: i was actually in the middle of doing this when i posted, and when i put the mirror back on, i could still hear the rattle, but it's barely noticable now.

Great fix!

My driver mirror was rattling like crazy. I found that Step #3 the passenger door was not necessary. I used step 3 on the driver side though.

Thanks for posting this up! It's interesting that this problem is so common. I tried to get Ford to fix this under warranty last month, and when my dealer contacted Ford for authorization, they said they never heard of the problem and the mirror must have been hit in a collision, so they wouldn't cover it. I guess I'll knock this out this weekend

Mine don't rattle...
It they do, I can't hear them anyway lol.

Usually, felt material works good when you use it in between parts...

Bump for an awesome fix. Just did this today. Took under 10 mins. I didn't remove the mirror, just popped the glass off and had easy access to the torx screws.

I noticed that my mirror on my 2008 Mustang was starting to rattle and it was also driving me crazy. I read the steps to try and fix it myself but I think I will take it to the dealership first. If they can't fix it I guess I'll have to do it myself with these steps. Thanks

I took my car into the dealership and to see if they could get it fixed and they told me that because there was a tiny scratch on the mirror, probably from the car wash they couldn't get it approved with ford because it was an impact scratch. So now I guess i'll have to try fixing it myself with the steps someone posted on here. Thanks for the tips.

Well I just tried it today because I have the rattle and it is driving me nuts...I am looking at 7 years bad luck...ended up cracking the mirror and now I have to find a replacement one.

Forget replacement one...ordered Agent 47 mirrors...there must have been a reason for it, so I took the opportunity
