wouldnn't step 1 be to lower the car - reducing the drag and keeing it planted on the ground?

My car has an auto trans, i ran it wide open today and it wouldnt give more than 135 before falling flat. Im pretty let down with the top end of this car, it seems weaker than the old SN95 base model GTs. the brenspeed tuner/cai helps throttle response but doesnt do anything for the top end. My SCT2 has the speed limiter off as the default, i dont think there are any more limiters but I wont be hitting 145 with this car without some serious investment. Just seems like this car is weak compared to other comparable GTs.

I bet that forced induction would get you to 160 easy.

^exactly, you would hit the rev limiter at 155-160a dn have no possibility of going faster, regardless of the HP ratings...you can have 12384763219 hp and if your rev limiter kicksin at 150 your only going 150, your just getting there quickly....

mines an auto without a tune yet... just a cheap CAI and flowmaster muffs. the one time i tried to top it out i hit 130 with ease and had to slow down, but it felt like it had plenty to go.

UPDATE, just thinking, i changed the tire info in my SCT2 to compensate for different size tires, maybe that is giving me a slightly lower speedo reading than actual, even though i put the calculations in the tune there might be enough diff to read off. The car was running 140, now im getting 135 as top, i dont think the car is getting slower so it must be the slight tire diff. Still, 140 is just old GT numbers, nowhere near SVT Cobraand Mach top speeds. Guess it would take a blower toget the extra 15-20 mph. Probably not worth it for this car, i will have to take the plunge for a Viper because i want to get into the 180 club, and i dont like Vettes.

A six speed and forced induction with a few areo mods will get you into the 190 club for less than a viper.

4.10/4.30s will help you pull through 5th gear better, thus, increaseing top speed
Stop me if I'm wrong but this sounds like it would have the oposite effect... It will however allow you to achieve your top speed quicker butit will not increase the cars top speed...

if you were driving in a vacuume, the stock gears would be higher for top speed, but, were not in a vacuume, the s197s have tall .62 and .75 5th gear, meaning you need over 500 HP to overcome the drag to get that high

my buddy had a 99 GT with 4.10s and the t45 has a .67 5th gear, we hit 140ish with stock 3.27s and with 4.10s we were able to bury the speedo, my buddies doesnt even pull that great in5th gear

Please enlighten me on this because it just doesn't make any sense to me...I can't understand how you can gain more power or excuse me "increase top speed by simply improving the acceloration of the car...wouldn't you hit redline a lot quicker thus putting theingine in danger??? It makes more sense to widen the gears like an earlier poster said 2:73 then the car will be at it's max when it hitsredline.... or I could be totally off I'm just learning....
