DOD...mustang may be ruined for 08
I read yesterday that the 08 STANG will have "DOD" displacement on demand"......Which means it will be a 4,6, and 8 cyl engine depending on the driver wants and wishes?? or I should say will run on 4 and 6 cyl when driving at normal pace.
I hate this idea!! It has been a nitemare in the past!! other makes and models................

the DOD system in the tahoes works well.while cruising about 65 it shuts down to 4 cylinders and when you slam the gas it activates the other 4 it adds a good amout of mileage to these v8s im not sure how it will work on a manula mustang.

It's a good idea and if Ford doesn't do it, then other manufacturers will (and have). According to AAA the average price for a gallon of gas is $2.55 today. How long until it hits $3 and stays there?
I'd like to see a button on the dash that would allow me to switch from a performance mode to an economy mode, too. If you're stuck in bumper to bumper traffic then you don't need all of that power, you might as well save gas.

An interesting point of view...
To me, MPG is directly related to pocket money: the higher the MPG, the more money stays in my pocket.

People seem to forget that yea it saves higway mileage but dose not help any in city or bumper to bumper traffic. Also it sucks for most performance cars in the respect that it is not instant there is a lag between hitting the gas and it all coming on. On an upside if it is electronic though, there may be a way to set them to always on with a tuner for all us power addicted out there.
I am not too concernred with gas mileage for my Stang, that is what I have a small V6 daily for. I think the gas mileage on the current GTs is fine. If your going to complain about gas mleage then I have to agree with POWERS buy a car for it.

The new DOD technology is light years ahead of the old '70's disaster. With electronics controlling the injectors and the spark, and also engaging and disengaging a hydraulic valve which controls intake and exhaust valves in the on/off cylinders, it is seamless and so far seems quite reliable (in the honda and GM (and toyota?) models that are on the roads, it is nothing to worry about).
I have not heard anything about any lag, and if there is any, there is plenty of other lag in our EFI and DBW systems so that the few microseconds that it might take to actuate a hydraulic valve would be unnoticeable.
