Default oil change every 7500?

Hadn't seen this posted yet.

Ford is changing the recommendation on oil change intervals to 7500 miles.

GM is following suit.

Chrysler is going 6000 or 6 months

The cars are lasting longer therefore they aren't selling as many. Go ahead and wait until 7500 miles to change your oil and see how long your car will last. You could probably go 5,000 on a good blend oil.

Best not to take the chance. Oil isn't that expensive. Its definately worth the extra few bucks to treat your engine with care.

I definately agree.

I won't wait that long between changes, like someone else said, It's cheap insurance.

I just thought it was funny that manufacturers are finally recognizing / admitting that modern cars are engineered better and probably don't "require" the old 3/3000 method.

Read the fine print.

Intervals like that are for driving conditions that are easy on the oil, such as mostly highway driving where the engine remains fully warmed up for extended periods of time.

Expect to find a lower interval recommended with many of the driving conditions that most of us think of as normal but which the mfr identifies as "severe" or some similar description. Things like short trips, dusty environment, etc., fall within this definition. Just guessing, but frequent use of full power probably does, too.

Redline Oil and Tufoil additive...Every 4k miles on past cars, every 5k on GT.

Had a neighbor, had an old Dodge product. It came with a recomendation of an oil change every 1,000 miles. He did. He's deceased, his wife sold the car many years ago.

For the most part you are pissin' money down the drain changing your oil @ 3,000 miles.

There is a wonderful forum on the 'net that is loaded with real world information, much of it scientific, and not filled with conjecture and wives tales related to oil. There are more knowledgeble folks on their than you can shake a stick at, many actually from the oil or automotive industry. They also run oil analysis to get actual scientific data on how the oil is performing and not basing it on "I change my oil every xxxxxx miles because it makes me feel good [:-]"

The site is called Bob is the Oil Guy and has about 16,000 members as has been around for years.

Check it out, educate yourself, and then see if you really need to change your oil at 3,000 miles. Maybe oil analysis will say you do, but I doubt it...
