Default RE: Grinding Noise on Startup

ORIGINAL: NyFordTech

I have yet to see a timing chain rattle or loosen up on the new stangs, i highly doubt this is your problem possible starter concern i could understand it being the starter withn a few mins off running but 2 to 3 mins after starting idk [sm=interesting.gif]
It was 2 - 3 seconds after starting. So a starter does seem very plausible to me now. I'm gonna have to have it checked out.

I also had this grinding sound on cold starts, but it did not sound like a stuck starter. But after reading this thread, I took the starter out (3 bolts and 2 nuts for electrical connections), gently pulled the engaging gear and using a toothpick greased up the shaft. No more noise! Thanks guys.

Default Solutions?

Just wondering if anyone in this thread ever came up with a solution for the grinding noise. I have a 2008 Mustang GT manual trans and when I cold start it has a bad grinding noise that sounds like a circular saw. It will only go away when it gets warm... does anyone have any Idea what it might be?

There's a TSB about the bellhousing separator plate:
