I just painted mine last weekend and it turned out excellent. 2 coats of engine primer (1200 degree) 6 coats of blue engine paint and 3 coats of clear coat. Overall it came out better than expected. I know why Ford doesn't coat them, for cost reasons, but the stock magnesium covers look like crap. Now that I've done the covers the rest of the engine bay looks bare, so I've created another cash cow under the hood with all the dress up posibilities. Total cost was $25.00 for the 4 cans of spray paint.

Did you buy those through Fjord or someplace else? They would go nice with a black supercharger

wow i did not know or realize about the covers not being aluminum.. so i guess that wouldnt really work.. i also throught about gettin the chrome ones from rpmoutlet... or where ever.. and using that metalcast paint from duplicolor, and giving it an anodized blue finish.. then it would go with the fiitings on the steel braid hoses...

but chrome would also look reallly nice ... i wonder how hard to keep clean and shiny

Any change would be better than how they came from Ford....good luck with your decision.

I would have said powder coating until I found out how much they want in my area. Over $200 to powder coat. I wound up painting mine for less then $20 and If it chips or I want to cahnge the color, it will only cost me another $20 to re do them + a little time.

Actually they do polish. I did not take off my covers just used Mothers "Billet" and a polishing pad by hand. I used a washcloth to wipe off the residue. This is the passenger side, I havent started on the drivers side, but it will be easier to get to.

The pics are not good but you can see the reflection of the wire looms etc. This took me about 30 minutes, and it is pretty work intensive but is very cheap and easy compared to the alternatives. You can see I havent got to the back yet and I am going to use a small Powerball to do the top curved portions.

These pics are not right after polish, that was done a few weeks ago but the shine holds up well and just a light buff has it shining bright.

If your ambitious, and can find an old stove, you can powder coat them yourself. Summit racing is offering a home powdercoating system for about $150. Muscle mustangs & fast fords just did a article on it in the June 07 issue. They said that it's super fast, and easy. Along with the kit,you'll need an old junker oven for the baking portion.One big enough to fit the valve covers in. Once you use the stove it cannot be used to cook food in. I'm going to get this kit in a few months, and the local dump has dozens of old stoves for the taking. They offer the base kit with your choice of color, and you can buy many more colors that you want seperately. In the article they powdercoated a part of a frame. It was cleaned sprayed,and baked within 1 hr. It seems like a good deal to me.
